  • Once upon a time I actually liked Russell Brand. Thought he was intelligent and quite in touch with the ways of the world despite his eccentric character. He truly lost the plot when covid came around, although it wasn't the first time he'd talked absolute shite.

In hindsight, it's not really a surprise that he'd be this kind of person.

  • Anyone who thought this war would be over in a matter of weeks or even months was living in fantasy land. It's going to be a long haul conflict, neither side is going to give up. Eastern Ukraine has been a conflict zone since 2014 and it will probably remain that way for many more years.

  • Smartphones have just been so boring for the past few years. Ever since they all started getting full screen displays and multiple cameras, every year has felt like small incremental upgrades. You probably wouldn't gain very much by upgrading even from a 3 year old phone.

iPhones won't be interesting to me again until they get a completely new form factor like folding or something.

  • Just goes to show that sexual assault is happening at every level of society in every profession. It's a truly grim realisation.

But I think the fact it is being reported on at all is a small silver lining. People are starting to speak up and speak out, and predators are increasingly finding nowhere to hide.

  • I don't mind seeing communist content, it's better than the shit that I was seeing on Reddit's front page before I left it. At least communists aren't spewing hatred against people based on their skin colour, sexual orientation, gender identity, or other things that people can't control.

Although the centrists and leftists still hate each other, Lemmy is just a nicer place in general due to the lack of far-right horse shit.

  • Seems like people are irrationally angry at Russian people as a whole for not yet managing to overthrow the Putin regime. It's easy to call for revolution in a far away country when it's not you or your family living under the boot.

Russia has no shortage of opposition, like the Novaya Gazeta newspaper for example which has had many of it's journalists assassinated over the years for criticising the Kremlin.

The prejudice against the entire Russian population is absurd to me, there are many Russians who are on the same page as us but who don't have a voice.
