I develop mostly C#, and I use rider on an m1 MBP (not my main pc of course, but nice for not sitting at my desk my whole life) and I’ve got access to the latest .Net framework (which is still old as MS has stopped releasing framework versions) as well as .Net 7 and the .Net 8 RC.
Again I pretty much only develop with C# .Net and JS/TS, but I’ve not had issues with support for current development.

I think “cel shading” is just 3d shaders that apply that style, though cel shading colloquially just references the style so I may be wrong on that part.
When I was younger my parents got a new pc. It had a stupid Game Center trying to sell you games. Being a bored teenager who enjoyed games, I looked through it. I found a game called Dark Orbit. It was the only game I was ever in a clan/guild. I bounced around a few guilds, but I was always friends with the big guilds. I had my own guild for awhile.
One of my friends gave me the top guild because they wanted to start a new one and knew that I really liked their guild tag. Everyone used to hang out on GSC which was a chat client nobody seemed to have heard of. It was like a precursor to discord. I had a lot of really good times hanging out with my guild mates. We sometime just hung out and talked without even playing.

Well they are the other and don’t deserve empathy because they are wrong and bad. We’ve all done it at some point. The real mark of an empathetic person is realizing and adapting to your biases and not sticking to your superiority complex when you realize it or it’s pointed out to you.
It can be hard to be empathetic to people who are different. We all have built in bias. It’s how we treat people that disagree or are different where true colors shine through. Are you insulting and full of hatred? Or do you talk to them and try to get an understanding of their life and position?
This is patently false, and I don’t understand how this rumor is going around still. This started because people found code in windows 11 previews for subscription based windows. That was related to windows 11 enterprise iot. Not windows 12. Not windows 11. The iot version of windows.

Equally as expensive but I’ve found high quality office chairs are much better. Gaming chairs used to be fine for me until WFH. Every day after work my back was killing me, and I couldn’t ever game after work.
I got a relatively cheap ($500) office chair and it’s been fantastic. Ergonomic, fully adjustable in every way, and shaped for someone to sit in for 8 hours a day. Fantastic. I’d love an aeron but even used they’re over 1k and 500 was already a lot to spend on a chair for me.
And I get that. And I think businesses should be able to make profit. And I think CEOs should make a decent salary. But I don’t think insurance should be handled by companies not affiliated with the government.
The fact is that insurance companies are publicly traded companies. Publicly traded companies have an obligation to shareholders to maximize profit. Maximizing profit isn’t something we want for something as necessary as our health. An individuals health is not a commodity. I’m not saying they are evil personally, but I do think the system is designed to benefit the companies and not the people. Which is not how democracy should work.

If we are required to have insurance to be able to get BASIC needs met, that insurance better meet those basic needs. It’s especially rough for people with less money and less opportunity. Some people live paycheck to paycheck and their claim being denied means that hospital bill now forces them to choose between rent or food.

Well sure, that’s true. How do you know that edge isn’t privacy friendly? What about the carpenter who just wants to use their computer to pay bills and google stuff? What about the old folks who don’t know how to install something? What about the people who just don’t enjoy using a computer and haven’t had the opportunity to learn about it?
They’re no more stupid than you would be if you were using a cooking utensil the wrong way because you never learned the appropriate way to use it. Or if you use the space below your oven as storage for pans and cookie sheets instead of correctly using it as a broiler. Or maybe you have one that actually is storage. I wouldn’t know, because I cook simple meals and I’m fine with that. It doesn’t make me stupid. Nobody can know everything.
Echo chamber usually implies that the only voices being heard are those in agreement. Anyone who disagrees gets curated out one way or another. This leads to people believing they are right and people who disagree are wrong. It validates their beliefs and reinforces them. It allows them to other those who disagree.
It’s incredibly unhealthy and leads to radicalization. Just look at all the echo chambers that have led people to commit mass atrocities. Sure, there’s likely a preexisting likelihood of radicalization, but having everyone around you telling you how evil somebody else is can’t be a good thing. There’s so much disinformation that doesn’t have an opportunity to get debunked. There’s hatred of various groups that is being reinforced and propagated.
Incels killing women and couples because they deserve sex with anyone they desire because they were.. born? I honestly don’t know the reasoning there. Trans folk being targeted because they’re… bad for children somehow? Or something, I don’t get that one either. People dying of covid after taking their horse dewormer. People driving to other states to shoot a bunch of people to “protect”… something? The problem becomes that when all you hear is one thing, it becomes fact and no longer up for debate. If people were exposed to more of those they hate, there would likely be less hate in the world.
But hey, who hasn’t been there? It’s easier to hate and sit in your bubble knowing how right you are instead of talking to people and trying to change their minds. And if you don’t let their voices be heard, how can you help them grow? How can you grow as a person if you’re only ever exposed to those who agree with you?
People with different skills than you are not stupid. It takes a lot of time, energy, and effort to learn this kind of thing if you’re not interested in it.
We should be kind to others, and not assume superiority because we have skills or knowledge in one area they do not.
Nope. Our software is sold directly to end users. Pretty much any major company has software releases with 9 in it. Discord, dragon, play station, android, apple (watchOS 9), I could list more. And since a lot of software is moving to SaaS, the paying for a 4.9 won’t matter for those, as you just pay a monthly fee. In terms of OS, Ubuntu, Debian, a lot use 9 in their versions.
As for apple and macOS 9? Idk who wasn’t please with it. Just like ME and XP, macOS X was not well received by a lot of the more techy people. Hell, there are still people holding onto macOS 9 to this day. The difference from 9 to X was pretty significant in terms of UI, and people don’t usually like change.
Again, I’m curious where you are in the world because I have literally never heard of this. And I’m a developer so I feel like if that was a thing in my neck of the woods I or one of my friends would have heard of it.
Passkeys are not a google thing at all. And they have been around for ages. Bitwarden will likely support them next month. Passkeys will not lead to anyone holding the internet hostage. While W3C has had its issues with drm in the past, they, along with FIDO are heavily promoting this. Apple rolled it out last? year. Microsoft supports it. Yubico has been a thing for years, and has supported FIDO2 for like 5 years.
Passkeys are not enshitification. They are a better and more secure way to log in than passwords are. The Fido alliance offers open source software to implement it. FIDO2 is an open standard similar to HTML or SQL. There is no reason for fear. Nobody will take our access away.
Mostly phishing. Passkeys can’t be phished. And really, passwords are awful in general for security purposes. You don’t have to use your phone or google or apple or whatever.
I actually have a physical usb key that I use as a passkey. Its just a more secure login implementation and will likely be the only option in the future.
Where are you located? I don’t know any programmer who is afraid of 9. Not even in releases.
We had a year of iterations of X.900, X.910, etc etc. None of us thought that was bad luck. And honestly we implemented some fun features to write.
Versioning is usually done with three numbers, often separated by a period. So Major.Minor.Patch/Hotfix. So we would have X.900 for the first minor version of X.9. If (when) there is a hotfix, that becomes X.901. For a lot of other software it would be X.9.1. Either way, skipping 9 would just cause confusion. I’ve never heard of this superstition and I’ve never seen a software company skip 9 in their versioning.
I own a gun. I have nothing against guns. I enjoy target shooting. Gun control isn’t about taking away guns. It’s about controlling who gets guns based on how likely a gun in their hands is to cause a bunch of people to die. Even one person dying is not okay. So I think more stringent requirements for who can own a gun are reasonable.
Yeah it drives me crazy that we can’t just read something for 2 minutes to get information anymore. Now it’s all just 10 minute videos with 4 minutes of ads.
