  • It's not my guilt to carry. I wasn't born or wasn't involved in these racist acts. Blame the people who were

  • Your book looks like an American thing. I try not to consume too much yank media. I read "See what you made me do" by Jess Hill a few years ago. Is it significantly different to that?

  • What are you doing to prevent DV? (Not a challenge, I'm genuinely curious if you're part of any efforts)

  • There's a difference between prevention and punishment. I believe people who kill their spouse (or attempt to on multiple occasions) should be imprisoned for life.

  • Men don't have to have male friends to not be lonely. Any friends will do. I have lots of great female friends.

As far as solving domestic violence, I don't know how to do that. But I think we can all agree that we want it to end. Probably even the perpetrators of DV want it to end.

Maybe a big part of it is finding those who are most likely to be perpetrators and try to understand them better. And help them better understand themselves.

  • I think many are quick to colour all men with the same brush when any man does something bad (murder, domestic violence, etc). This ignores the fact that most men aren't doing this and are helpless to stop it. It's not like we're choosing to let domestic violence to continue. We're just as powerless as anyone else.

And there's a real focus on the worst of men's behaviour, without any appreciation of the good things men do, to balance it out.

All men are flawed, just like all women are flawed (except my Mrs). We're all a mix of good and bad, trying to do our best.

  • I hate Joe Rogan, but occasionally he has interesting guests on, and I'm forced to tolerate him for a bit.

  • Go to a climbing gym. "I think I left my drink bottle here last week. It was clear, about this size". Worker pulls out a box of lost and found drink bottles. "Oh, that is it there". Take a dusty one (so you know it's been there a while, and nobody's coming back for it). Now you have a new drink bottle! Give it a clean and go!

  • I have a recurring dream where I have trouble typing into my phone keyboard. Whatever I do, the text just won't get in there. Sometimes it's urgent. Other times I'm trying to show someone something and they're watching me fail.

  • Maybe I should get on tiktok. A social media app with Americans sounds wonderful

  • It's not a replacement for that. You can do it in addition.

  • Yeah, I get what you're saying and that's a totally valid way of looking at it.

The way I see it is if you're not making the sound yourself, you're using some instrument to create the sound. Whether that instrument is acoustic, electric, computer, or AI is just a matter of degrees. Is a musician who creates music from samples expressing themselves?

For me with AI, I write the lyrics myself, give detailed description of how I want it to work. Then go through hundreds of generations, piecing together bits I like, regenerating bits I don't. It's not the same as playing guitar, but it's still creative. And more importantly it's fun.

  • How much AI music have you created? I've done quite a bit (and I also have 30+ years music making experience and a music degree), and I would consider it expressing oneself. You could question if photography is expressing yourself, because the camera "does it all for you".

  • The fact is most people don't regularly make music. This is probably because it takes years of practice to make something that they think sounds good. If we make it easier to make music that sounds good, more people might express themselves through music.

  • I think meta pays pretty well
