I’d say there is one thing at least (/s is noted btw):
Being a victim does not make you an advocate. You would think it does, it happens all the movies and TV shows, but it just doesn’t, not by default.
I’ve heard people say it could never be that bad, because they wouldn’t do what was done onto them.
I hope everyone learns it this time: identity does not define your morality. Trauma is not some magical sauce to a good moral compass, that’s just trying to draw a silver lining on a mass grave.
I guess it made more interested. For instance, what else have they been doing that for? What if tankies were just ops designed to create leftist discord (and the people dumb enough to fall in with an op)? It’s made me very conspiratorial in regards to the reliability and consensus of anything on the Internet. I’m willing to be wrong about my different pet theories, but with how opaque all these privately owned platforms are and incentive of nations to control information, it’s hard not to be suspicious at this point.
This isn’t Bowie really saying “MTV”, he’s talking to America. Blues? Let’s let the racist Clapton represent that. Rock and Roll? Why Elvis Presley! Rap? Ice-Ice Baby!
It isn’t that MTV is the first to do this, it’s a consistent pattern of Americans taking from a culture and then sanitizing and whitewashing it for their own profit. Of course we can always blame profits. I’m sure setting up concentrations camps is profitable too.
People have trouble criticizing things they like. Fact of the matter, America is racist and if you don’t cater to racist you run the risk of “outrage” and “scandal”. Listen to the Vanilla Ice interview where he’s asked if he thinks it’s weird that he’s the face of rap…
Woke is an insult somehow, but listen to how cringe these unaware people sound.
True, I forgot that I bought that myself. My mind went to XBox emulation because I’ve been messing around with it. It’d be interesting to hear a comparison between what runs smoother: Halo 1-4 emulated or through the MCC.
It’s just a mask at this point. As soon as all the public services are privatized, along with military, and elections can be bought, what is a government at that point? Where is the distinction if they’re all paid off by the same people? At this point it’s become a sport for the ultra-wealthy to just buy countries like a sports team. Trump is even wheeling and dealing to buy other countries, this is how shallow the meaning of nation has become. America: sponsored by Musk and Thiel.
Americans absolutely did not vote for this! You call an election where one man can pay out a quarter billion - legally - a fair election? Do you think 90% of Russians vote for Putin too? We’re cooked and getting more cooked. Point and laugh and act like this isn’t bad news for the world.
I just hope everyone is learning how easily your country can be owned and controlled by outside interest - if your country is filled with uneducated, incurious, and indoctrinated citizens. We have no one to blame but ourselves as we ask The Kremlin to take the wheel.
Eventually that backfires hard. There are ways to measure the effectiveness of ads and bots don’t buy shit. The number one ad on reddit is “buy some ads, people love seeing and clicking on reddit ads!”
Reddit ads are terrible, no one clicks them, they all use clickbait post titles, and there’s more each day.
There was a smart way to monetize reddit, their choices make it clear what kind of people are making decisions at reddit.
