  • There was a wave of tankie on Reddit and here during the reddexit. It was like, “where the fuck did stalin/mao/pol pot loving, atrocity denying weirdos come from en masse?” But you’re right the shock was bigger than the phenomenon.

  • They built a barbed wire topped chain link fence between a middle class townhome neighborhood in Chapel Hill and a working class apartment neighborhood in Carrboro. It was actually the owner of the working class apartment complex that put it up. I lived in the nicer neighborhood. Many people, myself included, were opposed to the fence. Nevertheless, the impact was an almost immediate and complete cessation of window-smashing/car robbing epidemic that plagued the nicer neighborhood. It being Chapel Hill/Carrboro, bolt cutters were soon employed. Fence had cycles of breached/repaired. Whenever fence is intact, no car break-ins but no social justice or whatever. I never felt so conflicted.

  • These are complicated questions with answers that lack solid data at the moment. People think the “woke” war is too much when it has govt telling corpos what they can and can’t say. So the GOP doesn’t care about free speech of their opponents unless it is their business opponents. Desantis is backing off the Disney fight.

  • All I know is that the pointless waste of coastal rebuilding goes hand in hand with coastal states like NC literally outlawing using actual data to support their coastal policies. Instead of climate adaptation it’s epic waste and denialism.

  • Which somehow means that Europeans suddenly have headlights that makes sense while we’re over here dying from aftermarket HIDs that should be treated like the VA Highway Patrol treats radar detectors ( rip ‘em out and smash them with a sledgehammer on the side of the road)
