In my previous comment, I forgot to add the ability to easily clone one installation from one computer to another.

I’ve used Clonezilla on Linux but with mixed results.

I used it for a while and it helped but there were still issues from time to time so I’m just deciding to go wired for my mouse now

I’m really impressed by the fact that it’s so difficult to find something I miss even if I really try hard.

I’d say I miss being able to do a backup of my work iPhone with iTunes and not some obscure command line tool. But that’s about it and I’m not even sure I really need it since my company is trying to block reinstalling from a backup for safety reasons probably.

Linux has really become something that everyone can use day to day provided they have the right hardware and not something like my Surface Go where the bluetooth comes and goes.

I’m not an expert of virtualization but I’ve had a few VM in Gnome Boxes.

I use Fedora Workstation and I love Gnome and the way you switch between workspaces instead of having multiple windows in one workspace like you do on Windows.

I don’t know if I would really have discovered the Gnome workflow if I only had it installed in a VM. When doing the three fingers touchpad gesture in VM, it would bring me back to my normal Gnome installation, so I never really got to try KDE for real.

I guess if I really wanted to discover a distribution or a different desktop environment, it would be better to really commit as a VM just gives you a good sample.

I might be wrong as maybe some people know how to really isolate the VM from the real machine though..

I guess it’s true that it would way more infrastructure.

Settings synchronization between every device would be a big plus.

I’m really happy with Voyager on iOS, but an app for my linux computer would be welcome as I’m kind of struggling with how Lemmy appears in Firefix.

Probably, it’s not needed because consoles are more locked down I guess..

I have a Switch that I’m almost never using (nor my kids), but yeah the idea is great.

I’d love a similar concept from Sony even if it’d just be a copy.

Nah it’s never gonna be able to play steam games as Sony is making money on the games it’s selling and not the hardware.

I think the advantage it would have over the Steam Deck is that you wouldn’t have to tinker to get games playing as it’d just be a normal console.

Personally, as a console gamer, I feel more and more attracted by Linux gaming, but I don’t think I’ll make the jump until physical games are gone for good.

As long as a computer has 4 usb-c ports, I think you’re covered for everything.

Yes we had more different ports back in the days, but most were never used.

Usb-c is way more practical. Still that implies that you have more than 2 Usb-c ports.

I understand why Mozilla would want to keep the money coming from Google, but it might also be good for them to be less dependent from Google.

Nothing is preventing them from cutting deals with other search engines if they want to keep doing that.

I only used Reddit for two years, but I’m now really happy I made the jump to Lemmy.

Sadly, I can only agree that some niche content is difficult to find.

But I can’t complain because I’m not creating any of that content and moderating some community.

Peertube is really really great.

I think what would help a lot is if creators had the ability to say you can watch x amount of videos without supporting me and then you support me through whatever platform.

It would then be really viable for creators and consumers. The creators are getting such a small amount of money from every video watched on Youtube, they would get more there.

I’m on Tilvids and it works great.

I love Peertube, but I don’t think I’ll really be able to test the app properly until my subscriptions are showing

I’ve nothing against Sony, but I want some of these companies to lose some of these cases just to remind them that we should own what we buy.

If they could let you create real polls to vote, it would be nice too.

Right now I think you can only react with a thumb up or a thub down.

Well it happened to me mostly in technology communities where my job as a police man in a country without too much corruption was giving me a different point of view than people who were seeing a corrupt government spying on them all the time.
