  • Well Netflix is still the best streaming service when you think about the price and the content.

I was just a price hike away from resigning but it never happened.

In Switzerland there are also a lot of streaming services which haven’t arrived yet.

And we’re still sharing our account with my mom who lives 15 kilometers away from us.

  • Every year I allocate 100.- (around 100$) to share between every geeky project I want to support.

My list includes: Lemmy, Memmy, Joplin, Wikipedia, Organic Maps, Gnome, Thunderbird, Firefox, peertube)

I could give more, but I could give less.

I’m also trying to support the Linux Experiment with Patreon.

  • It’s really nice to see a post like this.

Back in the day I was also dual booting windows and Ubuntu but windows was messing with the system clock.

Then I decided to just have a windows VM to be able to backup my iPhone (not my own choice😞), but I’d want to replace that VM by a MacOs so that at least I learn how to use a new system since I have to keep using windows at work anyway.

The community is a big plus on Linux and you always find someone ready to help you.

I also love the spirit of Linux where you rely way less on big corporations.

  • I guess a sticky post titled « ditching windows, looking to find my way on Linux » would help and new posts about doing that should be forbidden in the community rules/redirected to the sticky post 😇

But it’s also important to welcome properly newcomers.

  • I really loved the first one and I was thinking about buying the second one one day.

The art direction was really great and it was a big change from AAA games.

The first one was free on the psplus a year ago.

  • I’m not necessarily against one subscription service having a ton of games from a lot of developers. The problem is that a ubisoft service isn’t gonna have games from everyone and that playing a full game takes me 2-3 months with the time I have. Just buying the game is probably cheaper for me and gives me more guarantees.

  • I guess some people want a pc and a console like me and some people just want a big gaming pc. Both ideas are fine and no one should be looking badly at the other.

We’ve made our calculations and for me a « shitty PC » and an easy to setup gaming system like the ps5 is what I need.

But it’s perfectly fine for me if someone wants to go the other way. I’m not gonna say they are dumb and their way is shitty because it’s not mine..

  • Yeah I’m already annoyed because you have to choose between Fps and graphic fidelity on that generation, so I’d have a stroke in front of all the parameters you have on a pc😅

And yeah the price is a big plus on a console, especially if you only buy a few new games and buy second hand a lot.

  • As a console gamer who loves tinkering with my pc, I can’t agree. As much as I love tinkering on PC, when I want to game I don’t want to setup anything or wonder if my computer can run a game.

As long as PC gaming isn’t giving you that for every game, they’ll be some kind of console market.

  • I own a ps5, a switch and Surface Go 1 running Linux for administrative work. It’s my perfect combo.

For sure, I’m mostly playing Ps4 games on my ps5, but I wouldn’t be able to play demanding games on my ps4.

Newer games aren’t available on ps4 and I hope it’s gonna be a really long generation as I hope they’re not gonna try to make us upgrade to a ps6 in a few years. I don’t really care about crazy graphics anymore as I think we’ve reached a really nice point and AAA games are already so expensive to produce.

I kind of only play on the PlayStation 5 as the switch is for my kids.

A Steam Deck could also be a nice replacement for my Surface Go as it would allow me to play some PC strategy games.

  • Linux is clearly great and can even be used by non techie elder people, but only if you can stick around in case they encounter any difficulty. Why? Because they can ask anyone to get some help on windows, but most people would be scared to even approach something they don’t know, so they wouldn’t help these old people on Linux.

Is it a shame? Yes, but that’s the reality.

I guess that if you put an elder on a prepared Linux computer with nothing more to setup, the elder would be perfectly fine using it. But if they want to add a program or anything, that’s when they gonna need your help and presence.
