  • Edit: To get it out, you can use one of those tools that has a band that wraps around the filter and tightens as you try to unscrew the filter. If you need more torque, use a long bar that can go over the handle of the filter tool. If you don't have a long bar, you might be able to use a wrench. Place the circular side around the handle of the tool, to create a longer distance between the filter and you push with your hand on this make shift lever to increase torque.

One time, I didn't have the filter tool, so I hammered a screw driver through the entire filter, creating a handle on each side which I could use to unscrew the filter. If nothing you try works, the ultimate piece to unscrew is that bare metal (no paint) piece that screws on. Rip everything of the filter off until you get to that piece, spray it with silicone lube, and see how you can twist it off.

  • They could potentially fix it for even cheaper by repairing the piece:

    1. take the piece off
    2. let it dry out
    3. find the break in the seal
    4. use an adhesive to reseal the break
    5. install the piece back on the car

It's a little more effort and time without the working light, but it might be helpful depending on @nieceandtows@lemmy.world's financial situation.

  • This is what I don't get. BMW, VW, and Porsche are all companies that supported the Nazis. Assuming that 99% of all employees at those companies when they supported the Nazis are no longer working there, what does it matter that they supported the Nazis? BMW, VW, and Porsche aren't a real person each. There's no Mr. BMW going into a secret mountain lair snickering while rubbing their hands together. It's really just a name for an economic system. The people all change like the boards on the ship of Theseus. And it wasn't BMW's, VW's, or Porsche's fault for not having just ethics. The entire country was taken over by Nazi's. Surely the people that resisted were removed or punished. Maybe some employees pulled a Schindler and protected people as best they could. Others tried that CIA sabotage manual shit that's hilarious. Some were all about Nazis. But, none of those people are there anymore in any effectual number. In other words, BMW is just a name as I understand it. Is there something I'm missing? Do we need to rename it to something else so that suddenly the root essence that supported the Nazi's is removed? While we're at it, do we need to rename Germany/Deutchland or shame them until they change their name?

  • I had a friend like that. They weren't always assholes, and we used to be good friends for over 10 years. But, they become an asshole eventually. I had to cut them off no-contact entirely because it was just unbelievable how disrespectful they became. Interestingly, the were blaringly neurodivergent, but denied it. I still can't tell if they really thought they were a normie or they were passing as a normie and making excuses or outright denying their "quirks". Either way, fuck them.

  • Me: Hi, I'm DankOfAmerica

Them: Hi Dank, I'm... <Me: Did I say my name weird? I have a weird name to say. I should practice saying it more.> Nice to meet you.

Me: Likewise 😀 <Me internally: fuckkkk, what was their name?>

  • Do you have an app for your shit list? I've been Google Keep for my lists, but seeing there if there are other options that work better for me.

  • Guh-ross. I am not eating unheated food in which the animal fat is all solidified and creamy. I'm so lucky I didn't grow up in the south with their fridge cold fried chicken.

  • Them: turns on lights Why are you in the dark?

Me: Huh? What time is it? Yeah, I'll eat after this part. Almost done.

  • Ok, but what if your worst is based on concrete experiences that occurred repeatedly over years? Of course it's not their responsibility if it wasn't them, but it's not like you're making it up. You're not just coming up with shit for excitement. It's ridiculous, but are you crazy? Is it really your fault in that moment? Are you just creating problems and not giving anyone a chance to directly address them because the whole point is to hurt their feelings? That's the thing I'm getting at. Basically, we're all in agreement. It's ridiculous and they don't have to handle it, but don't give me shit about it like I'm doing it to hurt people or being selfish. It's not "my bad". It's just "bad".

  • Everyone has met an asshole that says they're neurodivergent to get away with purposefully being an asshole. When you go up to them and tell them you're neurodivergent, look at their eyes. If they squint, what they just heard is that that you're an asshole.

  • Tenure-track professors typically have a time limit to prove their worthiness of tenure. At the end of that limit, they apply for tenure and either get accepted or practically fired. One way to prove your value is by publishing in "high-impact" journals. There are all sorts of methods to measure the impact of a journal objectively, such as how often its articles are cited in other articles whose impact scores are also measured. These professors that are in serious debt and have spent their entire lives aiming for this position are practically prisoners trying to get out of the whole they inadvertently dug themselves into. A lot of publications are by those professors, so they are aiming for the highest possible impact scores.

Another group is made up of highly acclaimed professors. They all know each other personally and sit on the editorial boards of those high impact journals. Before they officially submit an article, they send it to their colleague that's on the board or knows someone on the board for review, make revisions, then submit for publication. This likely leads to a bias I like to call "a hook up". These professors practically own the journal, so they have no reason to start a new one.

The rest of the professors (mid-level tenured professors) would be the ones likely to create a new journal that isn't privately owned by a publishing company. Being mid-level and tenured, their only drive to excel is their personal desire to improve the field, so they're not as driven by necessity as the tenure-track or personal drive to excel as the highly acclaimed professors. So the reason it doesn't happen is the ones that would make it happened are over-shadowed by the ones that promote the currently established ones.

I think for a new one to come out, we'd need a schism among high-level professors or some major systemic change in academia that impacts the drive for publication.

  • I feeeeeel....I ☝FEELLLLLL☝ (pls don't get mad at me) like when I tell people ahead of time of my neurodivergence, they take it as me coming up with an excuse to be rude in the future.

  • I'm like 95-100% filtered at first to avoid upsetting anyone. Very rarely, I'll make it to 0% unfiltered with only the most accepting and trustworthy people.

  • I'm confused so much, that when I'm not confused, it's confusing.

  • This is the disclaimer

  • Ok, it's your moment. Let's hear it all. Dump it. Why do you hate it?
