Back in the day, people(old people lol) were willing to pay you to make a custom screensaver with pictures of their grandkids, their cat, and that one time they did that obviously hilarious thing in that one picture. Whip up a quick screensaver, stop by their house, copy it over and set it as the screensaver in Windows, here's $20. Well, I used my grandmother's desktop one time to make a quick one, because she asked me to for one of her family members, and when I popped a disk in to make a copy, she asked me what I was doing. I explained I was copying the file to give it to the person in question, and she proceeded to have a meltdown, throwing a fit about how I was "taking something out of her computer" and how "it wasn't [my] computer" and I had no right to "sell things out of it." As you can imagine, I was wasting my time when I tried to explain that copying a file was not removing something from her computer. She spent a good 45 minutes on her tantrum, and never did change her mind. The other person did get thier screensaver, though. So I guess she just continued to believed that I literally ripped a piece of hardware out of her computer and gave it away.

I've had this happen to me at least once on every distro I've tried to use long term (longer than let's say a month or two). Most recently was about this time last year. Luckily it was on my second computer, and I was still maintaining a full Windows install on my primary gaming system, so I didn't really lose anything. Just reinstalled Windows on the second computer and tossed it in the closet until I decide what to do with it, and switched back to using the other system for all tasks instead of just gaming.

Conversely, all of the non-desktop systems that run some form of Linux(my NAS TrueNAS, my other NAS running unraid, multiple mini file/web servers, similar systems) are all rock solid. The only one that gets borked regularly, is the little system I use for testing out random shit(mostly Docker stuff) before installing on one of the other systems.

It's about that time of the year where I take a trip around all of the major distros that I've run over the years and see what they look like, and if they have any new features that will compel me to try them out again. Probably start with Garuda, since I really did like their distro list time I tried it out. Maybe I'll intentionally break the system and see how much of a pain in the ass, or not, the default btrfs/snapshot setup they use is.

As long as everything is wired properly, and there's not too much going on on any individual circuit, that's an awesome setup for so many things. Imagine you're a streamer/YTer, OF girl, maybe musician with a big recording setup, etc. How nice is it to not need a shit ton of extension cords, power strips, splitters, etc, to plug in all of your camera chargers, lights, audio devices, other assorted devices required for such a setup. Even though I didn't film/stream when I was painting/crafting, I still needed so many power strips to plug in my lights, airbrush compressor, paint booth fans and lights, Dremel and other tool chargers, laptop, 3d printer and wash station, mini fridge, and other assorted items. I only have 2 outlets. So yeah.

Thou shalt not fuck kids. They definitely meant for that to be in there, right? Guys...?

Run updates without me having to worry that "whoops, an update was fucked, and the system is not unbootable anymore. Enjoy the next 6 hours of begging on forums for someone to help you figure out what happened, before being told that the easiest solution is to just wipe your drive and do a fresh install, while you get berated by strangers for not having the entirety of the Linux kernel source code committed to memory."

Linux is not free. I already work full time job, and unlike maintaining and endlessly diagnosing countless issues that I don't experience on Windows, my actual job gives me a paycheck every week.

I bought mine on Amazon. It's an Addlink. You should find it by searching (ad2TBS91M2P). It's currently $10 cheaper than when I bought mine. No idea if it's a good deal anymore, I haven't shopped for SSDs in a while, so I don't know current prices to compare.

Bought the deck, upgraded to a 2tb SSD, upgraded the cooling, swapped the shell, added additional grips on the sticks, pads, triggers, rear buttons, did some overclocking and undervolting, spent many hours tweaking various setting and plugins, etc. I've played a couple of hours of Mario golf on yuzu, and haven't otherwise touched it for a single other game. I've had it for 8 months. And the $2k gaming laptop that I ended up with a couple of months ago really kind of put the nail in the coffin. I had big plans for the Deck when I bought it(and the many accessories, upgrades, and mods), and those plans just kinda.... didn't become a thing.

I've been thinking about pulling the SSD and putting the 512gb back in, and just selling. The only thing stopping me is that I have some ideas on possible major life changes for this time next year(think tiny and/or mobile living arrangements), where the form factor of the Deck would/should be beneficial. That was the original intended purpose of me buying it to begin with. But even there, the laptop is plenty small, and vastly more powerful. Just not sure I see a reason to have both, and if forced to choose one or the other, I mean...

I recommend the modified version of WSA, which gives you a full Android install with Google services, the play store, etc. All of the apps that I use on my phone and don't have a Windows version, now fully work on my Windows laptop and get to look and work as if they are native desktop apps. Also good for when there technically is a desktop version of an app, but they want you to pay extra/again for it. Looking at you Pocketcasts, which I bought the premium version of, and not a month later they did away with premium version of the app and instead created a yearly subscription to lock those same features behind, gave me nothing for it, and then proceeded to also try to charge me even more to use the desktop app instead.

Thanks to this setup, I get to have "desktop" versions of Gmail, proton, pocketcasts, Sync for Lemmy (and sync for reddit before that), and a bunch of other apps and tools that I either can't get outside of Android, or the non-android versions suck.

What I'm eating will determine which two of those I am combining together. Potentially all three, in some cases. But there are also times when all the of those are better left out, in favor of barbecue sauce.

Mine went for $40. No box or booklet, just the cartridge. Sold FF2 last week for $60.

I used to prefer Coke after it goes flat. Or mostly flat. I still don't mind flat soda. Perfectly happy to keep drinking it long after all of the carbonation is gone.

Meanwhile, I discovered that you could get A&W root beer versions of those little flavor packs that you dump in a bottle of water. Yeah, no. Horrendously disgusting without carbonation. I'll stick with pink lemonade.

Just sold my copy of this game, literally earlier today. Was the last remaining SNES cartridge I owned.

"Inflation"

Chinese food. The common fast food type here in the US. Yeah, I can spend a bunch of time, work, and money to make orange chicken, boneless spare ribs, crab rangoon, teriyaki, coconut shrimp, and pork fried rice. Or, I can go 5 minutes up the street, and pay my favorite restaurant $20 for a big plate with all of that, with absolutely no work on my part, and it all tastes way better.

What's weird, is that I don't have any filters at all, and I have nsfw content allowed in the settings. Yet, I've never seen any porn through the sync app. Like, not even once. But I keep seeing people talk about how much porn there is all over the place. I'm very confused.

There was a local band where I am 20+ years ago called Naucet. With songs such as "This is Not a Convenient Time to be Stabbed". I have absolutely no idea what happened to the band, where they went, what they did. I can find no reference to them anywhere online whatsoever. I have a musician friend who was friends with them(maybe just one of them, I forget at this point) and has copies of their music on an old hard drive somewhere in a closet. Been a number of years since I've seen/heard from said friend, so I can only assume whether or not he still has that old hard drive. If he does, then for all I know, that might be the only place in existence that you can find that music.
