  • I whipped up a basic page with PHP and just used XAMPP when I was on Windows. I recently switched my daily driver pc to linux and haven't updated it yet. I only used it to save MP3s, videos at yt-dlp default "best available" settings, and a custom option that lists available video/audio formats where I can specify the ID to grab of each. No validation or sanity checking etc, just some switch statements and basic form functions.

  • Awesome, glad to hear it!

When you're ready to try printing again I agree with the suggestions to:

    • lower the bed temp to ~60c
    • avoid using glue sticks or similar since it shouldn't be necessary with PLA, and will just add another variable
    • keep working through first layer print tests

I'm surprised you're having adhesion problems with a PEI build plate. When I swapped to PEI it was like magic; filament effortlessly sticks and finished prints pop off from a gentle flex. There isn't like a plastic shipping cover on it or something is there?

Anyway, good luck with the rest of your troubleshooting -- I'm sure you'll eventually get it dialed in :)

  • To my eyes the inner rectangle portions look pretty good and uniform. If that's a brim around the outer edge it's definitely not doing its job.

Is the severe warping and sharp creases from you fighting to remove it from the plate or is this basically how it looked on the printer?

EDIT: If there's any kind of draft near the printer maybe you could try using a cardboard box or something to build a makeshift enclosure.

  • Are you saying the surface in the picture is the one that touches the bed? If that's the case it should be nearly perfectly flat and smooth(ish depending on bed texture). If that's the orientation it prints in there's still an issue of distance and possibly belt tension or something else because of those waves and deep grooves. There's a bunch of different methods to level a bed but ultimately you want the nozzle to slightly squish the filament it is putting down, in the picture it looks like it might not be.

As for the bed being clean, if you haven't yet I'd definitely spray some isopropyl alcohol and wipe it off, taking care not to touch the bed with your hands at all -- oil from your skin will easily cause adhesion issues.

Larger prints in general, and especially if there's temperature variance while printing (drafts), can start to pull off the bed as the material contracts. You may need to add a brim in your slicer to help keep it welded down. When it's necessary to use one will be a learning experience as you get used to your particular printer and environment.

  • I’m sorely tempted to start circulating claims about what Chauvin had in his system at the time.

Are we certain the wound was caused by a stabbing and not "Incarceration Delirium"? Or maybe it's a holy miracle stigmata!

  • Toby Huss went on to do a lot of great and varied projects (I'm especially fond of Reno 911! and Halt and Catch Fire) but I wonder how often people mention his character, Artie, The Strongest Man in the World, when they meet him.

Pete & Pete definitely aged very well and the opening theme song [Piped mirror] still rocks too.

  • Just wanted to say great job with this post! I like that you were quick to respond to questions/criticisms, updated the body with edits, and the huge thing of also updating the title and prominently calling out the right answer and the user that provided it.

    Keep being awesome.

If your concerns are about AI replacing therapists & psychologists why wouldn't that same worry apply to literally anything else you might want to pursue? Ostensibly anything physical can already be automated so that would remove "blue-collar" trades and now that there's significant progress into creative/"white-collar" sectors that would mean the end of everything else.

Why carve wood sculptures when a CNC machine can do it faster & better? Why learn to write poetry when there's LLMs?

Even if there was a perfect recreation of their appearance and mannerisms, voice, smell, and all the rest -- would a synthetic version of someone you love be equally as important to you? I suspect there will always be a place and need for authentic human experience/output even as technology constantly improves.

With therapy specifically there's probably going to be elements that an AI can [semi-]uniquely deal with just because a person might not feel comfortable being completely candid with another human; I believe that's what using puppets or animals or whatever to act as an intermediary are for. Supposedly even a really basic thing like ELIZA was able convince some people it was intelligent and they opened up to it and possibly found some relief from it, and there's nothing in it close to what is currently possible with AI. I can envision a scenario in the future where a person just needs to vent and having a floating head just compassionately listen and offer suggestions will be enough; but I think most(?) people would prefer/need an actual human when the stakes are higher than that -- otherwise the suicide hotlines would already just be pre-recorded positive affirmation messages.

  • This account owns/runs that website (check out the About section and compare the last name to their username) and otherwise only posts items that they benefit from (mohaboelezmediumcom). I don't care enough to dig deeper than that but I wouldn't expect the content on the site itself to be properly vetted or necessarily even created from a human, and I also wouldn't expect any additional insight from this account here.

  • Why do you link to blobstreamingorg so often?

BlobStreaming is an independent publication launched in November 2021 by Mohamed Aboelez

    Oh, maybe that's why, Aboel3z.

From your submission history I also wonder if it's possible mohaboelezmediumcom might be self-promotion in some way too...

I'd like for Lemmy to not become just another billboard or spam dumping grounds like most other places have turned into -- kindly fuck off if your motivation is self-enrichment.

  • This could have been a fun mashup but this execution just feels kinda wrong/gross overall to me.

    • Why are so many main characters not included (Hermes, Zoidberg, Nibbler etc.)? At least Bender is present as the flaming mass we all fondly remember from the film...
    • Was it really necessary to include perky nipples and a camel-toe on Amy?
    • The staff Professor Rhod is holding has what resembles a golden swastika in the only significant change from how it appears in the movie. And though the Professor is occasionally shown without teeth in the show is there a reason he doesn't have any here?
    • Why does that train have eyes?
    • Just a bizarre composition in general. Why include so much of the stone and vents around Amy, then make the openings between the slats just reveal the background image? If Leela was shifted over slightly left her fading tendrils and feet could have been cleanly hidden behind the Professor.
  • Seems like a huge waste of filament and print time. I use Rubbermaid TakeAlongs which are air-tight and transparent, negating the need to label what's inside.

  • The silent pouting expression after the "I don't remember asking you..." line was great. Samuel L. Jackson has such a distinct and biting voice. I really hope they've sampled and preserved it for posterity and future use (non-exploitatively of course). Even if they recast the role he'll always be the voice of Principal Firebush to me.

  • Nice visual! Minor correction for accuracy though, it's *Brett
