  • based on the knowledge, i would say nah. but maybe there is somewhere on the internet a genius who can somehow gets it to work stable enough.. who knows.

i just checked the announcement of libreddit and it seems they used the same json endpoints i did for my project, so they probably encountered the same issues i did. and if they didn't found a good solution yet (even after working way more with the API and endpoints than me).. dunno.

  • the biggest issue is that they detect thirdparty clients coded as a website parser on their server and just block you. and bypassing this isn't really working well because of the rate limiting.

example: i just did send 3 requests where i first logged in, then asked for the recent posts of a sub.. and already after this 2 requests i got rate limited by error 429 and couldn't send any requests anymore.

so even just requesting the recent posts in a sub is an issue (with spoofed browser useragent). if you use a "legit" useragent it works better, but reddit exactly knows you're using a thirdparty client and can block or ban you whenever they feel like. so it's not really a good solution because every minute reddit could hit the killswitch. just not worth the time to develope a app if it gets killed off then anyway.

  • difficult till almost impossible. i recently started coding my own client for reddit (i wanted a way to still get nsfw content when thirdparty clients go dead), and reddit is fucking annoying as hell. everything you do.. they smash issues towards you. every time shitty 429 errors (rate limiting) even if you are logged in. just using a useragent of a normal browser gets you ratelimited. so spoofing a normal browser don't works. sending a bit too much requests (like the Stealth app who is basically a parser for reddits website) gets your device ip banned. if you then open reddit in browser, they smash a error in your face that basically says "fuck you, we think you are a bot. gtfo.".

bypassing this rate limiting is almost impossible even if you try to spoof a browser. i tried the last few days and just gave up because its too annoying and buggy. the whole system of reddit is so annoying as a developer to work with.

it annoyed me so much, that i now think about making the app not for reddit but for lemmy. because reddit sucks. hard. fuck them.

  • still works fine if you use a older version of the app and are a moderator of a subreddit. apparently reddit didn't killed the api key yet or the app somehow still works without api key.

  • uhm.. but my Joey still works? lol

i have killed the "please update" message and still run a older version of Joey, but still. if reddit kills off the api key you would suspect that the app isn't loading anymore content. but it does. weird.

edit: okay, seems if you are a moderator in any subreddit on reddit the app still works. that's why. reddit amazes me everyday more.. first they kill off thirdparty apps, but then still allow to use them if you are a moderator..they kill off NSFW for thirdparty apps, but if you are a moderator its still working.. they can't decide what they want.

  • would be still lemmy.world since I don't really post in communitys outside lemmy.world much. 80-90%of the stuff i comment is in communitys on lemmy.world since i usually sort by local. i use accounts like a filter.. nsfw stuff only on lemmynsfw, lemmy.ml is my backup if lemmy.world bugs again and lemmy.world my main account and place for all other things.

  • what tells you that you are currently not in a dream and the whole reality is just created that way? and before you read this text right now, there existed nothing because you just got created with fake memory's right now (boltzman brain)? :p

(sorry, i know this goes too far now and i should stop. so i will now :D)

  • are there? i sit here in front of my computer, no person anywhere. also not a single sign of a person being here except me. for all we know we could be a boltzmann brain imaging our past life and we will be gone in a few se

  • even if it's encrypted. if you don't want someone to find out about it.. don't talk about it online. you never know if the encryption really safes your ass in the worst case. there are cases where the police has deactivated or bypassed them without the user knowing about it.. or where they found the password.

here in germany the police hacked a server of a darknet drug market and deactivated the encryption and collected all the user passwords when you logged in. they collected data for almost a year and then screwed everyone over who used the service at that time.

never trust anyone or anything. if you want to keep a secret... don't post it online. even if it's encrypted.

  • can we please get a better / additional way for favoriting posts? the new swipe feature is really buggy. you swipe and it decides random if it favorites the post or not. and if you want to remove a favorited post, it often don't works at all and takes what feels 5-6 trys (swipes). can you atleast give us a additional button to favorite / unfavorite posts? and a option to disable this swipe actions in the settings would be nice too. I'm sometimes trigger them by accident since i have the new update and would rather use a normal button instead.

    thanks!

p.s: the sorting in the profile overview is also buggy and often don't works. clicking sorting by new doesn't really does sort by new for me most of the times.

  • i'm 95% only using this instance here (lemmy.world), so i would say its mainly the lemmy.world instance. i only have 2 other accounts on lemmy.ml and lemmynsfw, but i don't really use them to comment or post much.
