Look up first past the post voting versus ranked choice voting. The system here is broken by design, it needs to be rebuilt from the ground up, but this year we have to defend against more attempts at authoritarian takeover and the loss of what little democracy we have here. It's a serious fucking situation not time to pine for what could have been. If you want real democracy to ever have a chance here first you have to defeat those trying to kill it entirely.
