  • Whether or not Putin actually had him assassinated, years of unfair imprisonment and abuse certainly contributed heavily to his death. Putin is responsible, in one sense or another.

  • I hope we eventually get a version for Wear OS.

  • I knew that was true of new articles, but did not realize it also happened with opinion pieces like this one. Thank you for the information.

  • I generally agree with the content of the article, but the headline destroys its credibility. No one who might possibly have their mind changed is going to go anywhere near it.

I will admit to over-reacting. I'm just sick of watching people with something important to say undermine themselves by adopting the emotionally exploitive rhetoric of the other side.

  • I suppose it's inevitable, but the amount of ridiculous propaganda being posted here by a small by a number of people is making this community both less useful and less pleasant. Bizarre conspiracy theories and hatred are not news.

  • Peacemaker

This was unlike any credit sequence I had seen before. And it fit in beautifully with the bizarre style of the show.

  • I just assumed he was there to get his annual review.

  • PBS was just one of many sources, but it probably helped. A lot of their programs for children include that message. It was particularly central to Mister Rodger's Neighborhood. Fred Rodger's was a national treasure.

  • One of the things to be careful about is the "they're all equally bad" fallacy. No side is ever going to be perfect, but there are huge differences between organizations that make the occasional bad decision and organizations that are dedicated to distorting and lying in whatever way is necessary to justify their ideological points.

OAN is not a news organization at ll. Fox reports actual news, but always gives priority to propaganda. CBS and ABC aren't terrible, but are far more concerned with ratings than news. NBC is similar, but they chase a more liberal audience.

NPR, PBS, and the BBC are all quite good about doing honest journalism. Start there if you want to know what it actually going on. Then cross-check it against other sources.

  • Only their constituents can really impose consequences. That desperately needs to happen.

  • And clearly enjoying it. It's good of you to give him one!

Both of ours have chairs too.

"Our dogs are not spoiled. They are competitively compensated for the user experience the provide."

  • That is a concern, but they seem to have taken precautions to prevent that from being exploited, at least in the short term. We'll have to see how it works out. I haven't given up on them yet.

  • Startpage is a good choice. I am currently experimenting with searXNG. It seems a little messier to use, but I'm getting more relevant results and less junk.

  • I don't think the conservatives are sufficiently unified to form a single opposition army. The problem with basing your appeals on hating "outsiders" is that you end up with a lot of internal hatred too. There's also a strong undercurrent of "no one can tell me what to do" that makes central control unlikely.

What seems more likely are terrorist incidents, carried out be individuals and small groups, without any overall communication or strategy. We're already seeing some of that. The lack of coordination won't prevent it from happeing, but will prevent it from achieving anything.

I don't think there are very many people within the MAGA movement who honestly want to resort to violence, whatever they tell themselves. The ones who are actually willing are the ones who wanted to hurt someone anyway. Politics provides them with an excuse, not a motivation.

I think we're going to have a nasty time for a while, but I don't think a right-wing takeover by violence has any chance of happening. I'm much more worried about a political takeover that then turns into an authoritarian coup. The left-wing has a much better chance of organizing as a whole, but I don't think there are that many people ready to fight from that side either, but that could change as conditions get worse.

  • Way back in the day HP was one of the best technology companies around. They were innovative, produced high quality products, and were a good place to work. It makes me sad that HP is now one of the worst tech companies and has among the strongest anti-consumer attitudes.

  • I didn't say anything about stopping the manufacture of medications. There are any number of ways that could be handled which would be an improvement over our current pharmaceutical industry.

  • Inadvertently destroying the pharmaceutical industry would be one of the best possible outcomes.

  • I understand where you're coming from on this. I love it when genres are mixed successfully, but the key there is "successfully". Everything needs to be consistent with the situation and the characters for it to work. It's realistic for people to be funny, tragic, romantic, and angry in sequence. Sometimes even all at the same time. But there have to be motivations for all of it that make sense in context.

Most humor in action movies is completely inappropriate. It destroys the suspension of disbelief. That is the result of bad writing and, sometimes, bad acting. It can also be done well.

  • I'm a big fan of the Matador series. I was surprised to find that another had been released. "Churl" apparently did not get much fanfare.
