All of them media platforms exist to co-opt our social interactions and replace them with ads for microwavable meals. They're spying on us, and for what? They control major elements of how we live out lives, and WHAT THE FUCK DO THEY EVEN GAIN? A lot of them are going bankrupt because it wasn't profitable. Their ads are less effective than the oldest forms of advertising. Ultimately, these platforms were about control, not about... Any other stated goal. And us programmer? We got tricked into thinking we were developing platforms to connect people and create a global culture of interconnectedness. Turns out we were building the infrastructure to implement genocide

When people on Lemmy.ml say their communities core values are different from lemmygrad.ml they look like total fucking roobs given who runs both instances (HINT: its the Lemmy core devs for both)

Then more of us should get ourselves on those lists. We should make the lists useless by way of flooding them

I've been thinking lately about the industrialization of music. Used to be before the gramophone you'd play music in your house. Sometimes you'd be bad. And everyone was fine with it. We just did it to enjoy it. Sometimes you and your neighbors would go to that one barn everyone was gathering in where the best musicians in town would play. They were your neighbors and friends. But now we don't know our musicians. We don't make music. We just consume it. I think we need to reclaim music. I think everyone should download DAWs and just... Fucking... Suck. And share their suck with friends and family. What you produce doesn't have to be polished, or good, it just needs to be tour own.
