  • I'm on that instance and not a tankie. I'm politically left, but object completely to authoritarianism and justification of atrocities.

So yeah, I get annoyed when pricks generalise and wish my death upon me for thinking maybe we should help the poorest in society and don't think the super rich deserve every penny they get.

I find it ironic when people are hating on one political grouping and their conduct is no better than the ones they despise.

  • Yes, and you do it at the point you need to work on that feature. The business pay for it when they want the change.

You do not pay for the refactor with your time, if the company won't pay to fix their code. Just make it clear the risks and how bad it could be if you carry on with duct tape fixes.

You have to be strong and firm and not agree to hacks. You need to work with your team to ensure you're on the same page rather than getting undermined by cowboy dev claiming he can do the feature in 2 days when it needs 2 weeks to do the necessary work.

  • It actually doesn't.

It is the open source code. You can optionally install Google play in a restrictive sandbox if you wish. You do not have to.

I cannot disagree with the last sentence. He has his fair share of issues, but it doesn't take away from his ability or contributions.

  • Well Devops isn't a role. It's an approach in which bridges development and operations and integrating it in the team. It isn't sticking a cloud engineer (cloud biased sysadmin) in the team. It's about collaboration and delegating and supporting.

Cloud engineer is unfortunately what many orgs think devops is.

  • Depends on what you are referring to. If Linux Mobile, Android apps can be run on Waydroid and there is a compatibility layer like Wine available. However, for Linux Mobile, you'll open up Gnome and KDE apps. In Plasma, you have kirigami which enables convergent apps (that work on desktop, mobile and tablet). As it matures, more apps will be developed that supports it.

The world and ecosystem now doesn't define the ecosystems of the future.

  • Well it's open source android, if the code is bad, it's jettisoned. While I cannot stand Google, not every line of code they write is trash.

The sandbox is good and you do not need to install Play if you do not want to. I use f droid where possible.

I want Linux Mobile but it is not ready yet. In the mean time, this is the best we have.

  • If Russia use them and NATO respond with nukes or anything that will cause major problems, they'll send their nukes to the West (Europe, US), and the West will send them back. These will be done under orders if they do not hear anything, and very little action will be quick enough to prevent it.

Mutually assured destruction. The question would be who would survive? NZ? South America? Africa? Asia?

I'm fucked personally as I'm in the UK.

I would rather we didn't masturbate over nuclear weapons because what happened to Japan would be nothing compared to the loss of life on a global scale. It is a good option for nobody.

  • As someone who has used it for a few years. Incorrect. I had one upgrade issue (from KDE 5 to 6). Other than that. Smooth. For the Plasma upgrade, just change to default them before upgrade and upgrade from command line, not terminal window.

  • I played this. A great game. That era and Bullfrog in particular were incredible. Dungeon Keeper is one of the best games I played. Theme Hospital and Theme Park were great. It was the golden age of strategy games. Age of Empires 2, Heroes of Might and Magic 3. Red Alert games. Railroad Tycoon. I have no idea why this type of game became unpopular.

I strongly recommend Dungeon Keeper 1 (ideally gold with Deeper Dungeons add on) and Theme Hospital. Can get them on Gog.

  • I think the important thing is consent to use data. If I can control what data I share with them, it isn't the end of the world. If I choose to not, and it's honoured, then this is a good thing. I'd prefer this approach funding development to Mozilla not being able to compete.

Mozilla is a far superior company to Google.
