  • I think that one of my issue is that I'd like to be more knowledgeable to the smaller bits and bytes of C, but I don't have the time at work to go deeper and I don't have any free time because I have young kids.

  • My issue is with the imposter syndrome i'd say.

I don't know asm on the tip of the fingers because today's mcu are pretty full of features that makes it not useful most of the time, but if I need to whip up something in asm for whatever reason, I know the basics and how to search for documentation to help me.

I try to follow MISRA C guidelines because it's pretty easy to follow and it gives tool to reduce mistakes.

I have enough experience to avoid many common pitfalls such as overflows, but for whatever reason, it always feel like I don't know enough when I come across a tutorial or a post with a deep dive in a specific part of an embedded project or on the C language.

When I read these tutorials/posts, I understand what is being done, but I could not come to these conclusions myself, if that makes sense.

  • We managed before remote start, we still can manage now.

What will happen is that more manufacturers will follow suit, until it becomes the norm and every manufacturer does it.

So be ready to be inconvenienced or be ready to pay.

To moment we stop acting like these things are necessary in the real sense of the term is the moment we can find workarounds. Because we know damn well that this practice won't be legislated.

I sympathize with everyone that lives in cold climates because I do too and it fucking sucks having to heat the freezing car, but be ready to live without the feature because it will definitely be behind a paywall soon enough.

  • I live in Canada dickwad, I know what cold winters are, so cut your whining.

Remote start is a great QoL, and that's why scummy companies hide it behind a paywall.

If enough people pay for the subscription, companies will keep doing it.

So the first step is push back and stop buying from companies that does that.

Second step is to not pay for the subscription when all the companies will be doing it, because let's be real, all car manufacturers will follow suit.

So you will have to either stay in your car, which sucks, or find a workaround like a second key or , in my case, a code on the door.

It will inconvenience a lot of people and car manufacturers are counting on that to keep pushing that shit

  • I agree with you all the way. But we can kick and scream all we want, but if enough people buy the subscription, car manufacturers will keep hiding features behind paywalls.

  • The analgesics today are really good, so you won't feel much, just pressure as the dentist drills through the roots.

Otherwise, tell your dentist if you feel anxious or afraid, they are pretty used to that and will generally try to make you comfortable.

Afterward, your gum will be a bit sensitive, but your tooth won't hurt since you don't have nerves endings anymore.

    You got this.

  • It could make sense if the price were reflecting of not owning the car. But we know damn well that you would pay full price as if the car was yours, but you just wouldn't own it.

  • I live in a snowy climate and we did just fine before the invention of wireless starters. My car does not have one and we manage just fine.

That is a great QoL, but let's not pretend this is necessary.

My main point is fuck subscription for every fucking thing to try and squeeze more money, even worst by removing features and putting them back behind a paywall.

However, we need to stop saying that things are necessary when most of the time they are convenient.

Because that is how they get us to pay. Every little inconvenience is treated as if it absolutely needs to be adressed.

Then, we can say fuck off to these companies and live with the inconveniences they left on purpose to sell a subscription.

But until, companies will push these hardware subscriptions because it nets them more money.

  • Because I highly doubt the person isn't just saying " I don't work here".

Either way, the point still stand. Customer shouldn't be dicks to people doing their job as directed by Walmart and go shop elsewhere.

Either way, be angry at the corporation, not the wage slave.
