  • That's cute that you think $450 a month gets you an insurance plan. At that price it's subsidized by somebody.

My employer sponsored plan costs me $300 a month and they pay $1200 a month. It's still high deductible. It still covers next to nothing. My wife's necessary life saving meds still hit the deductible each year, costing me several thousand dollars additionally.

  • Back then I don't know who could have picked up the reins and taken over.

Vance didn't have the following he has now.

Ramaswamy wasn't white enough (I don't think it's possible for the right or center to vote non-white-male for president.)

Nikki wouldn't have worked either, she couldn't be dumpy and she also didn't have a penis.

So it's hard to say. I think the magat mentality is here to stay regardless of if dumpy is around, but the absolute control of the party probably wouldn't survive him.

  • There is zero chance that tariffs will go away by trump's own actions in the short term. He's committed to using them as the method of paying billionaires off with their tax cuts that have us very underwater right now.

The trade deficit is just some smoke and mirrors that they are using to say "look how unfair they are!" and to decline any rational negotiations for free trade.

he might make short term pauses especially if he will get something from it for his buddies, but he's not looking to use any other revenue strategy. He's there to cut anything going to people who don't vote for him or pay him (don't forget that the billionaires all just kissed the ring with 1M for his inauguration party.) He's just going to keep the trump sales tax strategy as his method of enriching the wealthy. Life is cheap when you make vast in excess of the taxed bare necessities with interest or dividends alone.

  • A lot of influencers are telling people to buy the dip, causing prices to go up.

Tomorrow 104% china tariffs go into effect, if the last article I read is still correct. The news about this stuff changes so fast.

Friday was all doom and gloom, monday started bad but ended positive. Some might think things will return to normal... but we haven't felt the full effect of all the tariffs yet. Until we do, it will look better than it is imo.

  • Bravery or suicidal?

She told the cops ahead of time what the plan was. Did she expect it to go some other way?

She could've moved up to mass, i'm positive if she posted online someone would have taken her in to help her get a leg up in a part of the nation that isn't full of bigoted ignorant dumpy lovers, but she didn't.

I can't see Florida, land of the insane, to rule anything on her side. That leaves appellate court or the supreme court... and I don't see those going her way either.

  • Yeah, i'm not that deep into gender politics. I was just talking about somebody I don't know, have never spoken to, have never met, and i've been relying on OP's news article as my source of truth for all information about her.

She made the choice to be where she is. Here's hoping she has an actual plan and she's not just victim #1 like everyone replying to me is implying.

If she was just using the restroom without sending out a press release ahead of time so that cops would be there this would almost certainly not have happened. I just don't know what this is supposed to accomplish in florida, land of the batshit insane people, especially with everything else bombarding us in the news. I get and agree with the desire to change things back to sanity, but I also know that my opinion is worth about as much as anyone on here.

  • Sorry, have two in laws living with me who have been applying for jobs for 14 months without success. If they can’t get jobs here in boston, i’m guessing florida is even worse.

Has nothing to do with her in particular, just the state of how fucked this nation is. Just like what I said originally.

  • They were a nobody before, now they will be a champion of liberalism.

They probably went from nearly unemployable like the rest of us, to guaranteed a good job at a nonprofit or other company that is proudly pro trans rights. There's no shortage out there.

They just have to survive the judicial system and the penal system, with all the free legal representation coming their way they have a shot at avoiding any jail time, and who knows how the appeals will go after florida can't secure a settlement or guilty plea.

  • Pichai kissed the ring. He's colluding with the person who tried to overturn the elections and install himself as a ruler.

All of the billionaires that were at the inauguration are in the same boat. I'm at a point where I believe the crimes of any of them should be tried and convicted with the punishments being doled out collectively to all colluders, but that's me.

I'd be going for the death penalty from the prosecution side, since it seems like that is what we do now to people who cause one or more people to die, no matter how unethical the victim(s) were.

  • They do not understand and the understanding they have has been formed with propaganda for decades.

American politics has been so far from it's idealistic roots in democracy and supplanted by the wealthy for decades if not a century or longer. Allowing businesses to fund campaigns openly in the 70s has to have been a big tipping point and why we have allowed it is bizarre to me. We have basically no media today that isn't highly politicized one way or another. Bezos has altered his media to fit whatever party furthers it's business goals... like most oligarch owned businesses following suit whether or not they are media.

I don't think things can be changed anymore though. I think pandora's box opened at some point and it can't be shut again without tearing civilization down.

  • I just disagree that they had it so good.

Modern technology like cell phones, computers, medicines and treatments have upended how things work. Imagine how hard it would be to go to a college or university and not have access to google or reddit. Or how hard it would be to have to type up multiple copies of everything instead of just sending an email with multiple recipients.

MMR vaccines starting with measles in 63, mumps in 67 and rubella in 69, Polio in 55-61ish, Haemophilus influenzae type b '85. Anyone who is a boomer lived in a period where these things were still a problem in day to day lives.

Their car crashes resulted in fatalities. Ours are generally minor injuries in comparison. The way cars are designed have changed.

They had one or two power outlets per room, if any at all. They didn't have much insulation, let alone sound proofing.

They had to pay a commission to a travel agent to go on vacation, they couldn't just look things up for themselves and had to rely on friends or the agent as to how it is.

If you wanted to look something up you had to go to a library.

Few actually owned multiple cars. Growing up in a middle class household in the 80s we had a single car and our family vacation was camping.

There was a constant threat of nuclear war.

Air travel for a long, long time was exclusively reserved for the wealthy and those in business.

Labor laws, as few as we have today, were even worse.

By the time computers came around they were too old to actually partake by and large. My boomer grandparents (because that's the actual boomer age now in their 80s) are dying or are dead and they've never had a cell phone.

Easy to access jobs, homes, boats, cars with little to no education or financial acumen. Just that “walk in and hand them a resume” trope they love to perpetuate.

It's never been that easy! It's always been easy to find a job that pays for a room, but much more is a luxury for so many. There's obviously exceptions but I see loads of people making >200k today without advanced degrees. Anybody who got into programming ~4+ years ago is living like a king today by comparison to most of the 'middle class' in the 50s, 60s, 70s or 80s.
