  • I absolutely hate the platform. It sucks it's even a requirement to get a job in any tech job (at least where I'm from, I heard it spread to other fields in other countries i.e hire a gardener on linkedin). The fake positivity and support for corporate overlords is just difficult to swallow.

  • I only recently (say, 3 months ago?) discovered Cory's blog and I just have to say that it is absolutely amazing. The books he wrote & co-wrote are fantastic reads and help explain how we ended up in this mess in the first place.

    Can't recommend him enough.

  • By hosting services on your desktop, you are increasing your threat surface. Every additional software that you run increases your potential to catch malware. It also requires powering a beefy machine 24/7 to keep the service up, when in reality anything that isn't a media server can run on 3rd gen Intel CPUs that have relatively low TDP.

  • I think the problem is preinstalls. No one was born understanding how Windows works, we had gathered that experience over time. If the computer you were introduced to was a Linux system (with X11 and KDE or GNOME), then that would be what you would get used to. Unfortunately, getting Linux preinstalls on laptops is basically impossible. Vendors love that preinstall money.
