You clearly misunderstood my post. Never said it was apples to apples, quite the opposite. I said the change from 7 to 10 was much bigger (and yes, we're ignoring Win 8 completely).

And of course will there be an uptick in Linux usage, he says it would be a "big" one, to which I objected to. Linux desktop has been trending up for a while, and while there might be a slight additional bump, I highly doubt it will be far beyond the margin of error for that general positive trend.

I also said it "barely" moved (it being the market share), which implies it did move, just not a lot.

More to the expected magnitude of the 10 EoL date pushing people to Linux, it won't be anywhere near what valve accomplished with the steam deck. Why? Because people buy a gaming console, they can play games on. Most don't care that it's Linux, it's just a tool/toy. It happens to be Linux underneath. On their PC they actively have to change it themselves. If people bought a PC that had Linux on it, they probably wouldn't overly notice or care either, but they just can't. Overwhelmingly they just come with windows, it you want it or not (usually there is no option to not buy that license).

Edit: what is harder to predict (or guess) is the indirect influence of valves accomplishment. Now that gaming on Linux it's actually viable, this might actually open the door for more people to give it a go. But as per usual with these things, it's probably less people who actually do it than one would intuitively expect or hope.

People said that about Windows 7 EoL too, which was much more of a paradigm shift. Absolutely nothing happened. The dial for "market share" barely moved, let alone Linux increasing substantially.

Just not gonna happen. I really wish it would, but it's just wishful thinking. Most people either don't care (they just "use a PC") or wouldn't know how to switch anyway.

Dunno yet, sounds like future me's problem. Mist likely some version of Linux unless win 11 drastically changes course (unlikely).

This also makes it easy to block Win 10 from upgrading to 11, just disable tpm in BIOS. From where I'm sitting, that's kinda convenient.

Just to comment on your first point, while in Utopia it wouldn't be worth mentioning, the fact that not every companys job listing even includes home office, that makes it not just worth mentioning, but means it needs to be highlighted. People look for jobs that allow some or full time home office (for whatever reasons, or in general). How are they supposed to find them if it's not mentioned anywhere?

Let me put it this way: I don't own a car.

I do own 3 bikes: normal, electric, electric-cargo. Train gets used for everything else. Tram within my city, but the city is small enough that I can reach most of it by bike (say up to 10km). Intercity (or equivalent) for cross-country journeys. Usually that's faster than going by car anyway, and I don't have to actively drive but can watch a movie or play games or whatever.

Spotify can actually do that, but it's a bit cumbersome: as the local songs to a playlist on a PC. Then set that playlist to be downloaded on the phone, and it will download the files directly from the PC as long as they are on the same network.

Heroic also supports Amazon games, doesn't it?

If it's always the same users, just block them. I'm also exclusively on Mobile and my app (Relay) has a context menu for users where you can block them. So does Voyager. This is part of lemmy, and sever based (your profile blocks that user). Meaning you will not be served his comments or posts, in this client or any other, or on the Web.

It doesn't really fill all the basic use cases I have either unfortunately. But it will probably be my fall back, yes.

I wish tried it. The thing implied twice and I had to start from scratch. Not exactly "smooth". Went to a full manual install, which is better but still very far from "good" or "stable".

Unless something changed in the last few weeks, Android app can't do bidirectional folder sync like you're used to from Google drive, Dropbox or one drive. You can mark a folder for "sync", but try copying something into it, it changing an existing file: no change on the server. I think you can manually open the app, navigate to the folder and open the menu to "sync", but what the hell is the point in having it marked to be synced then? I wanted to use it for my keepass DB for example, where that would be a requirement.

Yes, updates are a nightmare. I'm not on docker (also not sure if better or worse) and every 2nd update sometime significantly breaks that I have to fix manually. Last time, the "group folders" plugin (official, from the Nextcloud devs) broke it so bad that Nextcloud wouldn't even start. I had to go into maintenance mode, disable the plug-in ("app" I guess it's the term?), update it from console, re-enable it, disable maintenance mode. Not pictured: finding out what the god damn problem was this time. I've just about had it...

It's not just being slow, it issues with the install. I'm pretty sure these days I'd be better of with specialized individual services than this one monster that die absolutely nothing well. It still can't even sync files on Android ffs. I'd consider this core functionality.

The QR code would give you a way to copy/paste the id so you can actually give and, you know, read the thing.

Actual Ms paint works for that.

A QR code can also just contain plain text. It's just usually used for URLs.

I'm sure the official slicer will have a good profile, maybe the speed for outer walls accidentally got changed to 1 mm/s? I don't usually use Cura (that is what their slicer is based on), but I think to change speeds at all you need to hit "show advanced" or something? So if you didn't change anything, that is even less likely.

If it's real pauses (print head stops completely), I have even less ideas what that could be.

When I get back home I can try to see what I get with your settings, probably just resetting everything should also work for you though.

Can you give us your basic info:

• Which printer
• Which slicer
• What kind of profile
• Which preset (if any)
• What filament is selecte
• did you change any settings

and just posta screenshot of the sliced model that the slicer should show you, makes it much easier to recognize trivial errors like wrong orientation.

A good rule of thumb is to just always use 0.2mm layers unless you have a very good reason not to.

That being said, this doesn't explain your truly nonsensical time prediction. It would just be double, since you have twice the layers to print. Like someone said, a few hours would be reasonable, certainly less than a day even with very fine detail.
