  • Prohibition of cigarettes won't work, at best people will just go across an imaginary line to buy cigs, at worst it creates an unregulated black market. Just look at how alcohol prohibition went and the current war on drugs is going. If you want to have any sort of meaningful impact on cigarettes create more sin taxes on the product so people will decide on their own to just not buy them.

  • for small amounts of money, PayPal, cash app whatever is cheap to free, but if you need to send thousands of dollars and convert your currency from USD to Euro or whatever crypto is the cheapest way to do it.

  • I can see why, but you also have to consider before the invention of the clock we used sun dials to tell time, so that would effect how to tell what time it is in your particular time zone. I understand that is archaic technology in the modern world, but that is why time zones were invented and still relevant. Ask anyone that works in technology, old habits die hard, and by die hard, they go out kicking and screaming. Some SQL databases I've seen still run Solaris which has been a dead product for like ten years, navy boats that don't connect to the Internet still run windows 95 (believe it or not, I don't care, but I have seen them recently).

  • China only has has one time zone for the whole country. Daylight savings can go, but I can understand that because of the earths orbit around the sun there is a need for time zones, I think most people agree that wherever you are, 6am should be morning time, unless everyone wants to move over to military time, and just have a 24 hour clock. It would take some getting used to, but that would be the only way to truly get rid of time zones.

  • It would definitely empower Facebook, Google/YouTube, and Twitter/X. They are clearly winners in this decision. I don't use tiktok but I don't think it should be removed from the app store the same way Huawei was banned in America. With Huawei I can see why ISP's aren't allowed to use their products since it's public infrastructure, but as a consumer you should maybe have the choice to buy their phones. If you want to be dumb enough to let another government organization spy on you, that's your own fault.

  • Depends on the board, yeah probably better than some of the chans, reddit, hands down Facebook is better. At least most Facebook people don't pretend to hide behind psudo anonymity and I can see most of my Facebook friends in real life if I want to.

  • No, if you take way facebook those people will move to either reddit on the left or /pol/ on the right. At least /pol/ takes some critical thinking skills to get to so the trolls there have to do something half smart, reddit is just an echo chamber. I'll take Facebook grannies over either though.

  • It was written that way to welcome back the confederates. This was a war where it was brother against brother, father against son, so it was written in a way to welcome back the south. Like "yeah, we kicked your ass, but we're still friends, we're only going to change things a little bit", and it has to be a super majority so anything less than 2/3's in both houses isn't enough. A super majority like that can impeach AND remove a sitting president. It could also recall a Continental Congress which has powers not used since the revolutionary war.

  • I'm an American but even I know your in the minority with that opinion. You tell everyone in the EU to throw away their iPhone and delete their Facebook, I'm sure it's gonna be really easy to convince your EU friends. I have a little respect for Apple, not a lot of companies will psudo stand up to the US government after the Boston Bomber on privacy grounds, even if it was just for show.

  • It was a unanimous decision and the precedent they set was that states don't have the right to declare who is and who is not a traitor, only the federal government can decide that. I don't like Trump, but the precedent needed to be set and I agree with the supreme court on this one. You can still try to prove he is a traitor in federal court, and then he would be knocked off the ballot in all states.
