  • I vote for GoW, but if you are looking to snowball it, play TF2 first since the campaign is short but awesome! Then GoW. It's decently long, but mostly linear. Then after that, probably Bioshock for similar reasons. Finish it off with Horizon, which can be as wide open as you want it to be, but you can also mainline the main quests to get a more streamlined story experience.

Also, I'm the lead mod over on !playstation@lemmy.world so come join us over there if you haven't already!

  • If no one from your instance has subscribed to that remote community yet it won't load. It's a quirk of how federation works. Once a single person from your instance subs to that community then your instance will begin to sync and federate content. To get around this, the easiest way is to:

    • open the web browser and go to lemmyverse.net
    • Click the home icon (shapes like a house) and set your home instance
    • Then search for the community you want to subscribe to
    • Open the link and it'll open the community in your home instance where you can subscribe

If that still doesn't work then go to your home instance community search page and search the full URL of the remote community. You may have to search for it twice for it to show up. Then you can hit subscribe. Once you do this, not all content will be fetched retroactively. I think just a few weeks of posts and comments, but all future content will federate properly

Edit: when I click the link in your post in sync, it opens just fine for me

  • You are assuming a linear progression. Climate effects are likely accelerating.

  • This makes me more confident that their next hardware release will be a standalone/PC hybrid VR headset to compete with the quest 2/3.

  • I think a lot of PS Studios have been branching into 2 pronged studios. So they might have a team for GoT2 and then another for something new.

  • Rumor is it's GoT2. I think there were some job listings

  • Interestingly enough, even on PS4 GoT had near instantaneous loading times. In an interview it was due to their focus on visual style. Most biomes are composed of singular plant types to get the vibrant uni-color look they were going for. The result was incredible loading times. I played the first half an PS4 then waited for the PS5 upgrade 60fps patch before I finished. So goooood!

  • For Chiaki, could we add a link specifically to Chiaki4Deck? Last I checked Chiaki was in maintenance mode and wasn't accepting edits to fix issues with trackpad swipes and some other deck specific improvements. Someone from the community forked Chiaki and made chiaki4deck, available on the discover store to remedy these issues.

  • Very cool! I'll check it out! Thanks

  • The sources on wikipedia say it was Percy Spencer, an American self-taught engineer. He noticed a Mr. Goodbar candy bar he had in his pocket started to melt from microwaves from an active radar set he was working on. The first food deliberately cooked was popcorn, and the second was an egg, which exploded.

Here are the direct sources: https://web.archive.org/web/20110709081022/http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/history.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4h1ESUz2H3E

If you have a link to the hamster experiment I would love to read more. I might dive into a microwave research hole today! lol

  • Engineering is a branch of Science. Specifically, Engineering is applied science. For example, scientists discovered that microwaves existed. Engineers made them heat up your food. How did we make safer and better microwaves appliances? Engineers applied the scientific method and iterated on the design and performed tests.

To say engineering is separate from the science is incorrect.

  • Cocoon, from the lead gameplay designer behind Limbo and Inside. Comes out Sept 29th. I can't wait.

  • I'm at chapter 5 (of 7) and Steam is showing 15.6 hours (and 18/43 achievements if you are into achievements, which I am not.). I am still loving it.

I played a lot of it the last few days, so I am taking a little break to play something else. I need a few more restaurant days to make money to upgrade my suit to explore deeper to progress the main story quest. I blew all my cash training the best restaurant staff so that my kitchen is completely automated though.

  • I will say that I am chapter 5 now (of 7), and the game is always throwing new things at you. New mechanics, new story beats, twists on gameplay, boss battles, etc. It has stayed very fresh for me. I wouldn't say it is overwhelming either. It starts a bit slow where you think, "ok it's just a fishing, sushi restaurant management sim", but this is far from all that the game offers. I am loving it.
