  • I was looking into this recently, prior to Mali, and was intending to reach out and inquire. The Mali issue caused me to make a quicker decision than I would have liked. I will consider more thoughtfully in the future, either to prepare for a future unforeseen issue, or for an eventual PS6 community establishment. I do see this as the way forward in the fediverse.

  • Fair enough. I will actively look into other instances when I formal migration tool comes along. For now, I had to make this decision in haste for the sake of my community, and that meant I didnt have the luxury of time to properly investigate alternatives. I appreciate your feedback though. You are not the only one voicing this concern, and I do hear you and understand the issue.

  • This is a very good and fair point. I did consider this and was beginning to actively investigate something like this already, specifically lemmy.zip. I have been pondering a move to something more appropriate for awhile now. Unfortunately the Mali situation is forcing my hand to act more quickly, and I wanted to pick an instance that has a known track record. The World admins have successfully run both lemmy.world as well as their mastodon instances. I do not know much about the gaming-centric instances and their admins enough to jump in blindly at this time. If I had more time to develop those connections with them, I would have done so (and was planning to do so).

I do think that something like a gaming-centric instance is the way forward long-term and supports the Fediverse's values and it will be something I deeply consider when evaluating a potential future migration due to future circumstances or for something like a PS6 community establishment. If there were ever a way to more easily migrate communities, I will also consider this down the line.

  • I considered this, but I do not have the resources to run my own instance. There are some gaming focused instances that are popping up, but for now the most established gaming communities are on lemmy.world. Plus, I dont know much about those instance admins to trust blindly diving in with them. I am very happy with the lemmy.world admins and think they are doing a great job. They also have a successful track record with their mastodon instance, sot I have confidence in them longer term.

I will keep this in mind for a future migration to something like PS6 (or if some other catastrophe comes along lol).

  • I'm happy to have your support. I've worked so hard to build this from scratch (as a lot of mods have). I've debated doing this for a little while, but the whole Mali situation pushed me over the edge.

  • 🫡 Always happy to serve. Thank you all for your support!

  • I like Ars. For videos/reviews I personally like Skillup, ACG, and Eurogamer mostly, also digital foundry. Plus the official channels for the various consoles.

  • I'm the lead mod over on !ps5@lemmy.ml and I am also a mod on !nintendo@lemmy.world

I use an RSS reader app/website plugged into all the various news sites for gaming on all consoles and PC that a browse a few times a day. I post a lot of the news I like to the communities I mod. If you're looking for an app, I recommend an RSS reader (there are a lot to choose from so I would dabble in a few and see what you like).

If you're looking for gaming centric communities you probably already know where to find them on here, but resetera has good discussions as well. If you want to look for other communities across lemmy instances you can use https://lemmyverse.net/communities (be sure to set your home instance with the "home" icon so all links open correctly).

  • yeah, I am not super excited by that aspect. But still looking forward it finding out more

  • Other reviews/videos that could be good:

    • Nintendo life
    • Game Informer
    • Kinda Funny (although their reviews are a part of their long video podcasts, we could time stamp the video though)
  • Given that another previously unremarkable developer, Avalanche, went from making Disney games to an open world Hogwarts RPG, I will set my expectations at a reasonable level....

Open-world Bluey Cinematic Universe life-sim social RPG where we make our own dog persona, find a life partner, and raise children, all while becoming better people IRL along the way. Definitely no way for me to be disappointed now.

  • I updated the post body with the translated review that was linked in the original post. It isn't much, but it's there now if you want to read it.

  • I have the open critic page pinned in the community. It has all the reviews and snips of their written reviews compiled already. I posted Famitsu separately, since a lot of people give them a lot of trust

  • Famitsu is a Japanese video game print magazine. Their scores are usually reported online as Famitsu is a notoriously hard reviewer. Totk got a perfect Famitsu score (40/40) which is super rare for them.

It's more of a litmus test and marker of a good game. If Famitsu rates it good, you can probably trust that it is good. As for a written review, I believe you'd have to buy the magazine, translate it, and upload it yourself. They don't appear on the Famitsu website as far as I can tell. I may be wrong here though.

  • I'm thinking it could have a variety of games within it based on the various games the girls love to play. There could be a doctor game, cooking game, keepy uppy, shadowlands, etc. There's a lot of inspiration to draw upon. But based on the description it looks to be more story focused. I'm wondering how the art will look, if they keep it flat or go 3D.

  • Lol, I can't wait for this. Whatever it is, my kid will love it
