  • It's a progression, though. They turned up the heat slowly so people wouldn't notice how they're being boiled alive.

This is like the same logic republicans use to say abortion is just a gateway to death councils for grandma.

Don't make false equivalencies when you don't want them made against your party. Each party has a nuance of plurality in members.

  • What does antifa have to do with anarchy? I remember first seeing the symbol at Major League Soccer matches in Seattle in 2009. Lots of Amazon employees of liberal, but somewhat mainstream democratic POVs often raised the symbol. I thought it was just folks that hated racism and fascism, but not necessarily anarchist or socialist.

  • The thing that I dont think a lot of people like to recognize is that GW Bush had both some of the highest and lowest approval ratings. For months immediately after his approval rating was like 90 percent. Dems are also responsible for going to war then, even if they weren't the party in control.

But the thing is republicans did hold institutions, agencies, and administrative government orgs in higher esteem and weren't trying to destroy and purge. That's very different than trump. There's a difference between Mitt Romneys of the. GOP and the Jim Jordans who have never passed their own legislation and instead only focus on dismantling government and going on witch hunts.

I think the other thing you need to look at is how other elected officials speak about working with him. There's what you say in the public light, and then there's the work that actually gets done.

Also, didn't Romney kind of quietly champion universal healthcare in MA? And despite his own views, accept state Supreme Court rulings to provide gay marriage licenses? This guy actually cared about governing.

  • Yup. 99 percent of comments think this comment is about the general election, when the quotes are about the primary. Of course Mitch isn't voting for trump in a GOP primary. But he still probably won't vote trump in a general either.

  • I don't think people get that this difference makes a difference. As a millennial going through college during the GW Bush years, there was at least a Republican party that cared about America, cared about non political government institutions and the service those members participate in, etc. Since the tea party that shit changed. And I don't think it's hard to believe Mitt Romney actually cares about this country and means what he says on this thing. I feel disgusted defending Romney, but I kind of miss it when it was guys like Romney were the political opponents in power and not these MAGA folks hellbent on destroying democracy and politicizing the institutions critical to America.

  • Romney isn't a politician anymore. That's why I think this carries more weight. He can say what he wants and doesn't have to worry about job security of appealing to the base.

Also, read the article. This is about the Republican primary. He can vote for folks near term still R. But he alluded to that in a general if it's trump, he'd probably vote Biden.

But "the others that are running are acceptable to me and I'd be happy to vote for them," Romney told "Person to Person's" Norah O'Donnell when asked which candidates he "liked" in the GOP field.

  • I mean, there's still a ton of deals at a time when you're shopping for gifts. The article is saying that of the black friday deals, these aren't the lowest prices of the entire year for most items, but they're still lower than normal.

As a vinyl collector, I see labels and stores offering flat 20% off deals off everything which you don't see that often. Also seeing other types of deals on other direct to consumer brands.

If you know what you're looking for, and not looking at black friday deals to look for what to look for, I think it's a pretty good time to do shopping.

  • What is the deal with hot swapping on low profile. I remember casually browsing a few months ago and saw folks talking about lack of universal standards making some things incompatible for either switches in the PCB or key caps on the switch. Am I making that up?

  • That's the thing. Flexibitlity of choice doesn't work. If you want to have a productive office culture, teams need to be in the office. My ideal would be 3.5 days in the office. 3 days for the general policy, .5 days for those ad hoc things like meetings or other things. But working in the office sucks and is equally isolating when you have no team in the office and are on hours of back to back video calls with headphones on the entire time because there are no conference rooms. I think 3 days let's you have 2 days at home to do the laundry, exercise, etc.

  • In the pre COVID days when office was expected, I only was in the office 3.5 days a week. But it worked because everyone was there most of the time and for important meetings. It all broke with fully remote hiring during the pandemic. For those 3 days I'm in, only 33 percent of the team is in. What's the point at that point when I can't find a conference room to take constant remote calls. Hybrid everything is the worst of both worlds.

  • Remember when Netflix used Silverlight? Couldn't get it to work on linux back in the day.

Anyways, I don't think this makes piracy completely justified. It just means the best user experience for desktop, or for super privacy related folks, is not supported by netflix. It was a weird self defeating ending to say at the end if it's on netflix only, it's just not worth watching, but also say it's justifiable to pirate.

I think there's a weird sense of irony in being both pro piracy and pro sag aftra. Although they didn't win big, their payout is directly tied to streaming metrics. Piracy instead of streaming is going to screw them.

  • Yes. I'm wondering if the identity would need to be verified and known/published to the social media site, or just verified to confirm not some Russian disinformation troll. Is there a way to use tokens, or hashes to allow a website to confirm if multiple accounts are the same user without knowing who the users are. I hate this all too, but if it had to be done maybe there's a way to still protect some anonymity but allow verification. If the issue is national security, I imagine we are just talking about catching foreign bad actors.

  • There was a flare canister that hit a person. But then there was HE shells that hit the hospital. If It was just the flare I imagine that unfortunately is no within the reasonable criteria of precautions to minimize civilian casualties or something. But the HE shells...
