  • After writing my comment, I did some research again and found an old Reddit post suggesting to lower the resolution to 1280x800 on a 13' screen. I did so, just as a test, and now when I open websites like YouTube or Roll20, the fan is always off. I'll try it tomorrow with Google Meet and Webex, which is also something that made the fan explode.

  • I've always been a lurker on my main Reddit account. I'm much more talkative here and even posted something sometimes, but I doubt I'll become a regular poster and so I'm still hoping somebody will be as active here as most people are on Reddit

  • I know this will irk some people but... Do you know why using Gmail or YouTube on Firefox feels slower on an Apple computer?

I use Firefox on Android exclusively, but on Apple computers I still use Chrome more since Firefox seems to either be slow on certain websites or use too much memory (I'm sure it's not Mozilla's fault here)

BTW I actually donate to Mozilla because I think it needs to survive (though it must be a drop compared to what Google pays Mozilla and I hope they keep doing it), but I'm not using Firefox all the time as I'd like, since the experience looks a tad worse on Desktop

  • Just finished watching it and it was astonishingly good.

I think some parts of the plot are perhaps a bit weak (but still enjoyable) and the art direction and animation is outstanding. All in all, a fantastic anime

  • This is a very interesting thought: the Dowdy alien you mention has wiped out an entire race of 50 billion beings, but is aware of his crime and lives in self exile. He's committed an atrocious crime in a rage fit.

On the other hand, the changelings committed a planned crime with intent to cause suffering.

I'm not sure who's worse: the Dowd by magnitude of the crime, but the Changelings ruthlessly command their Dominion.

  • That's a very interesting answer!

It is however true Miles hasn't really appeared in the MCU (for teenagers and adults) nor is it made to be the main character in "Spidey and his amazing friends" kid TV series (though he's well featured).

I suppose the Spider verse movies are good at making Miles Morales even more popular and can turn the perception, but new generations still get to see an awful lot of Peter.

  • Not sure who'll read this, but I'd love to be able to browse posts I upvoted (as is doable on Reddit).

Hopefully, it'll be implemented since Lemmy is still in its infancy, like another poster said

    Edit: fixed grammar

  • Well, there is a crowdfunded documentary (which I even funded years ago) whose name is based on the last episode of the show "What we left behind" and where you can see interviews with the cast and the original writers imagine what an eight season might have looked like.

It's nice and they remastered several scenes of the show in high definition, so it's worth a watch.

Then you can rewatch it over and over again. I'm doing my third rewatch right now. I have only rewatched TNG once and no other series is as amazing as DS9 to me (though I have rewatched several individual episodes across all series)

I know Andrew Robinson has written a novel about Garak, A stitch in time, which I understand is well regarded and Garak is such an interesting character that sooner or later I'll check it out.

We feel your loss, but you should celebrate because it was so well put together and it had a charm no other series really had.

  • I agree with that sentiment, though it may just have been a good pun!

The problem is I feel either with people knowing or not knowing, it seems it's all been rehashed and overdone.

Maybe years ago, I would have answered characters must not understand what zombies are and learn the rules along the way.

I used to enjoy zombie movies a lot, but midway through "The Walking Dead" I couldn't take it anymore and I've ignored anything zombie ever since.I suppose I have the same rejection for vampire movies.

  • Thanks, I'll check them all out!

So they're all front ends or apps, they're not really alternative hosting services!

I have Android on my phone and MacOS on my laptop (I've been on Linux for several years, but I unfortunately don't have time to work on installing it and making sure everything works. Just life changes)

  • I was lucky enough to be working regularly during covid, but I didn't say I've never doom scrolled!

I just never heard the expression on Reddit (which is where I was at the time when wasting... I mean, investing my free time) :)

  • Apologies for my ignorance, but... What are they?

Are they front ends that strip YouTube of ads or straight different hosting websites, which will certainly incur in high costs to maintain the amount of videos posted to YouTube?

I guess I've also seen someone mention Piped. Is it the same thing as Newpipe (if you know)?

    Thanks!

  • I've never heard of the expression "doom scroll"! It's awesome! With your permission, I'll start using it.

I also doom scroll Lemmy every night (which is bad, since I should sleep, but good because I stopped going to Reddit)
