  • The current situation with megabytes of JavaScript is pretty bad, but at the time, there was still a fair bit of dialup active, and mobile web was just starting to be a thing - on EDGE and barely 3G. It would take minutes to load.

Also, Steve Jobs had it in for Flash and that’s what ultimately killed it off, I think.

  • It is very dependent on the community and the school, but there’s plenty of schools that are absolutely deserted outside of school hours for a variety of reasons. Some schools have playgrounds or basketball hoops or the like but some don’t, or they’re locked up, so why would kids go that way instead of the park.

The risk has been identified as high population of children during certain hours crossing streets etc., and is mitigated by lowering speed limits during those hours. Whether it’s an accurate risk assessment is a good question though. Personally, I think the influx of drop-off traffic is worth mentioning, but who am I to say?

  • NK is a bad enough place to visit without worrying about everything. It’s the ultimate in mismanagement.

Management says it must happen, so it happens, or we tell them it’s happened. When someone gets hurt because it actually didn’t happen, there’s a cover up.

  • USA could have spent money developing an electrified economy but the republicans are focusing on bringing back coal mining and reshoring shoe manufacturing instead.

This admin has set the USA back 100 years.

ETA - what I mean is that China is rampaging on in electrification, developing manufacturing skills, infrastructure, and design/engineering/technology around renewables and electrification. Europe is thinking about it but not going crazy to the extent China is, because legacy - China doesn’t have 100 years of cars and 150 years of trains; they’re building new. USA meanwhile is actively regressing under Republican policies.

  • They’re mostly all made in one or two factories in China. Midea and another one.

When it comes time to replace the AC, consider getting one that’s reversible and runs as a heat pump. You don’t need to use it, but it shouldn’t cost much more and gives you flexibility.

  • MS pulled access to the azure environment of a (Russian owned) bank in NL and despite NL court orders asking for the data to be made accessible, it took diplomacy and a US court order to get access. This was not during trump admin.

We’ve been saying “this would never happen” and trump admin has slowly been shifting the Overton window.

    1. Slash funding to postsecondary education, encouraging institutions to bring in international students
    2. Heavily market immigration opportunities to potential international students
    3. Act surprised when entry level jobs fill up

President Taco notwithstanding, it can’t have been that surprising.

    This is important:

Extended unemployment periods carry consequences that reach far beyond economic hardship. Young people experiencing prolonged joblessness often face mental health challenges, delayed financial independence, and difficulty establishing career trajectories. These critically missed opportunities also have repercussions for their professional networks and workplace skills.

  • I was a bit of not interested and not educated enough to know what a NDRI was while I was on it but it does make sense for ADHD and Depression symptoms.

The withdrawal from Wellbutrin was bad. I got brain zaps if I was 1hr late taking it; tapering and cessation was miserable.

  • My EV gets about 200km range in winter (my use case is up to 30 min trips primarily); 80km in 45 min, x2, is not far from the equivalent of 1/4 tank of “gas” in reserve, except there’s no Jerry can for an EV.

Then, convince someone who isn’t fully convinced of the superiority of fuel injection to go out in that. It’s always the “what if” fear of the unknown scenarios, and politics plays a role.
