  • As others have said, tiny market, but also that it often requires more development for the Linux port to get going, and even more development to actually make it run well. Like for instance, Civilization series usually release with Linux and Mac ports, but those are done by a third-party company which I imagine does add additional costs, and those suck regardless.

Not like it's a bad thing necessarily, the vast majority of native Linux ports I've tried were either severely out of date, had significant performance issues, crashed a lot or had some quirks that would make it not worth playing anyway. It's probably just easier if developers focused on proton compatibility instead.

  • That's how you know they'll never get elected

  • I had issues with keeping a stable sleep schedule for years, but now I found a method that works for me: every day, set your alarm clock to the same time no matter what (in your case 5 AM) even on weekends. Then, try going to sleep so you always get full 8 hours, if you fuck up and go to sleep too late then tough shit - you'll feel tired tomorrow which will serve as a punishment that your brain will hopefully recognize.

They key is to be consistent and not sleep in.

  • The head of state sharing power and responsibility with powerful unelected individual(s)? Where have I heard this before?

Speaking of stolen elections, I get that this isn't exactly evidence but this kind of a slip-up, intentional or otherwise is just weird if the election was truly 100% fair.

TLDW with relevant quote: "and he (Musk) knows those computers better than anybody, all those computers, those vote counting computers, and we ended up winning Pennsylvania like in a landslide it was pretty good"

  • It's just a sad state of affairs. Digital video games are 1's and 0's that you can copy for basically free (with the only cost being hard drive space which is dirt cheap), so preservation shouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately, we live in a world where logic sometimes has to take the backseat in order to maintain the current ideology, and video game preservation is one of those sacrifices.

  • A somewhat political fact, but one that made some of my friends dumbfounded:

When a bank issues a loan, it generates that money literally out of thin air and credits that money to the loan account rather than using deposits they already had. For example, if you want to borrow $100,000, the banker approves the loan and doesn't hand over cash or move existing money around - instead, they just go on their system and credit your account with the sum, that's it.

  • I'll get a bit conspiratorial here, but if what Bernie has said is to be trusted in his video about oligarchy, up on his youtube channel, then Democrats are largely owned/influenced by billionaires who would benefit from the increased Trump support. It would make sense to do this, but yeah it could also just be a blunder, given how Trump was the first one to propose the ban and Democrats could take it as "hey if we do this, we'll win the moderate right support again!!", though who knows.

  • I personally use bottles installed through flatpak for non-steam game needs. Especially if you're pirating, you can use flatseal to disable things like internet access for bottles (and games that you run through bottles) and inter-process communication, making it just a bit safer if you have trust issues.

Setting bottles up is a bit of a pain, but once you do that you can pretty much run anything through it easily

  • Does this mean Musk and AfD are now communists too?

  • This would be nice to hear if Linux versions of Civ games weren't always complete garbage

  • use your phone to look up the commands on how to get internet working again

alternatively, connect computer to your router via cable

  • you don't need to remember anything, except commands you use the most often but even then it becomes muscle memory after a while. If you ever need some specific command to use, just look it up online.

  • Paying a tribute to the feudal lord

  • I don't quite get what caused your radicalization - was it the media corporations that own the vast majority of the journals/newspapers (like Murdoch press or Gannett that you have mentioned)? Is it being worked like a mule for 8 hours? Is it both?

Nevertheless, it was a nice read, and I fully agree with your remark at the end that you can't really change this kind of system from within, as the power is concentrated with people who benefit from it being worse and worse for everyone except the few.

Much like yourself, I was raised under the impression that we live in a marketplace of ideas, that there is no objective truth and the greatest ideas will naturally come to the top and be adopted, it's why things are the way they are now. I was drinking it in, I had hope that various institutions had our best interests in mind and whoever opposed them was just some misunderstanding conspiracy nut. But, as I got older I grew more disillusioned with this notion, seeing and experiencing inequalities built into the system, how it's not good ideas that dictate how we live but capital/money and how this kind of system is constantly reinforcing itself through media/who money goes to/who gets to be elected and so on.

That being said, is there a way out of this I wonder? What we need is nothing short of a leftist revolution, but the left is and has been in perpetual defeat since 1991, and the center and far-right cannot be relied upon as they dance to the whims of our feudal overlords. And even if there is some light at the tunnel, it might just turn out to be another incoming train.

  • I always had the impression that a friendship or a similar type of relation should come first, to both gauge what the other person is like and to have time for both parties to build up a connection. Once that's done, consider where to go from there.

Granted, I have only had one 'romantic' relationship where I got romanced by a girl (didn't go anywhere precisely because it was so rushed), so I'm definitely inexperienced and probably far too naive to be giving takes. Still, I'm skeptical of Tinder and the idea of "let's make moves on a (near-)stranger", it just seems like a recipe for headache and breakups with only a low chance at a long-term relationship.

  • Yes please - whenever some out of touch figure or a news page tries to offer condolences or condemn the alleged assassin, it backfires spectacularly no matter what the political leaning of the audience is. It's literally the only thing that unites working class people in Burgerland

  • Waking up at the same time every day, no matter if it's a weekend or a weekday and no matter if you stayed up too late and won't be getting full 8 hours of sleep.

As obvious as this might sound, this has really helped me to regulate my sleep schedule, something I've really been struggling with for pretty much my entire life.

  • It's not so much people being attracted to scarcity, but decades of diamond industry propaganda having an effect on our culture. Even now there's an active effort being put by the diamond industry into keeping natural diamonds the "forever gem" while artificial gems made in a lab are being portrayed as "everyday gems", as in less prestigious.

  • Adopting leftist music by perverting its meaning is pretty much the M.O. of far-right anthems/songs, no matter what the song was about originally. See: Tomorrow Belongs to Me, Fortunate son (to a milder extent), Born in the U.S.A as some of more well-known English examples.

I wonder if this was an attempt at doing precisely that, or was it just some publicity stunt for the movement.
