  • Well, Montpelier does desperately need its plumbing updated, but this was a state wide occurrence. We've had nearly a month of straight rain, then Sunday night into Monday night SUPER heavy downpours. The ground is so saturated and the waterways/rivers/dams so full, there was no place else for water to go.

  • It can't be any worse than what I did. TMI alert.

I was in a psychiatric ward in my teens. Around that time, I also had major issues with pooping in strange places. I didn't poop for 11 days! Don't ask me how I wasn't in pain, but somehow I just shut off my rectum. Mom finally came to visit me, and we went to a restaurant for lunch. I guess I felt safe enough with mom near by (no, not in the bathroom with me), because I finally couldn't hold it. I crapped so much it was literally piled over the top of the water. Plus add toilet paper, of course it clogged. And it was the only toilet in the place. And when I came out there was a HUGE line of people waiting (no clue how long I was in there). I told the person in front of the line to wait because the toilet was clogged, then went to ask for a plunger. The counter person said they would take care of it, so I went back to the table. I don't have the slightest clue what happened after, but I thank God this was before everyone had cell phones. You know that shit would have been all over the internet!

  • Firstly... thank you thank you thank you for being such a good cat parent!

Cats are super finicky; mine would only drink from a wide casserole dish, because his whiskers brush against the sides of all other bowls/fountains. Some cats don't like stainless steel bowls (possibly the way the water edge blends with the steel side?); figures since it's healthier for them. Is the shape of the bowl itself or the way water flows different? Does it have a different filter compared to the previous fountain?

If none of those are the case, you could try running the new fountain for 24hrs to see if the water flow helps wash away any lingering funky factory smells.

You could also try a more gradual transition; kitties get fussier as they get older, even if he is still technically young. Perhaps turn the old fountain off, but leave it beside the new fountain (both with water) and see what he goes to. Then eventually keep the water out of the old fountain, but leave it beside the new one so aid in comfort and guidance.

Also, keeping the water away from their food is recommended.

Over all, I wouldn't let your kitty go without water for more than 24hrs. If he still won't shift over to the new bowl, you can always try switching the old fountain component out for the new one, or buy a fountain component replacement online.

  • If I understand the fediverse correctly, if the instance dies (meaning all the background servers are taken away), everything on that instance is gone; accounts, communities, posts, comments. Since the instance is the host, they are the ones holding the data; if they decide to stop, it's gone.

However, the creator of the community and its members could create new accounts on another instance to rebuild the community.
