Fine, I'll bite. Where's the guide to linking my Lemmy account to my mastodon account so I can use a single sign-on for both. I can't find one anywhere.
I don't think "you can host your own instance" is a very realistic solution for the vast majority of social media users. "Just learn to be a sysadmin so you can post memes" is pretty user-hostile.
If you're willing to pay for comics, I subscribe to Marvel Unlimited and read it on my tablet and find the whole experience to be quite enjoyable. Pirating comics takes a lot of work, and it's super convenient to get reading guides and character profiles and creator lists and stuff built into the app. I find I read a lot more comics now that it's easier to access.
This was the great promise of the fediverse -- that you would own your profile, and that you would have one profile across the entire fediverse, and that you could migrate that profile from instance to instance if you had disagreements with the admins of your instance -- but it seems to have fallen by the wayside with real implementations, which is disappointing.
I doubt it'll be what you're imagining, though, because of the licensing requirements for music hosted in a decentralized system. In particular, everything in the fediverse is public, so all music and podcasts hosted in the fediverse has to be licensed under the creative commons, and can't be gated to paying customers, which does not include most music or podcasts.
I would love this feature for when I can't watch sports live -- being able to mute the community associated with my teams (like !reign_fc@lemmy.world for OL Reign matches) when I can't watch the game live would allow me to browse my other communities without spoilers.
I feel that!
Let's go
