  • Seems a hell of a lot easier to just use “they/them” as we already do. If it were too confusing, it would evolve into something else naturally anyway. German gets by just fine with “they” and the formal form of “you” being the same. I think we’ll be fine.

  • I love the idea of the villain explaining the whole thing to the captive and at the end being like, “okay, I’m about to put the blindfold and noise canceling headphones on, so this is the last chance for any other questions about how this works”

  • We can look at history and see that it often doesn’t go this way when you tear down your government. It’s naive to just act like this is a straightforward and obvious way to go

  • Most modern linguists wouldn’t take a position on this at all, and would tell you that you’re conflating Language and spelling. Most linguists don’t study writing systems, because they are a different thing from Language. Language is an evolving system that is always changing, and people develop the ability just by being around other people as they grow up, whether someone is teaching it to them or not. It just happens naturally. Reading/writing is more formalized, has to be taught, and many people in the world never master it. Many languages don’t even have an official written form. It’s not the same sort of thing.

  • I agree totally. The guy happily followed, defended, and aided Trump in doing insane, evil shit. The only difference on January 6th is that Pence would have had to act alone instead of following someone, and he didn’t want to take on that risk. But I am sure he would have done it in a heartbeat if he felt sure it would benefit him.

You can tell this is the case because in the aftermath he had every opportunity to continue to stand up for democracy and he didn’t do shit.
