  • Seems interesting but it has the stink of "buzzword marketing" all over it. The example given in the article about using it for wake words is just using a microphone connected to the device. Microphones and speakers are both analog devices that all digital phones have already. Also the fact that it's an IC that's programmable leads me to believe it's not analog at all, or else how can it be programmed?

I also thought it was funny to talk about environmental damage from all these digital sensors and then using thermometers filled with mercury as an example of an analog sensor. Mercury is a heavy metal and extremely toxic to most lifeforms, which is why we don't use it in thermometers anymore.

  • Dude's obviously mentally unstable and probably a pedophile. It takes a special type of person to shoehorn "child sex trafficking" and multiple references of "jerking off" into a discussion about media server software.

  • This is the biggest downfall of Emby/Jellyfin IMO. It's a tradeoff from being reliant on Plex's authentication servers, but requires a lot of technical knowledge to setup correctly (rather than just port forwarding and relying on a strong password).

  • It does help when you're comparing it to someone with a big pile of cash to buy outright versus buying with a low interest loan. That cash can be invested and give you great returns while the cost of your loan goes down with inflation.

Even high yield savings accounts are giving ~4% interest right now with zero risk meaning someone with a 2% loan would be earning 2% interest on that cash and driving a new car while the person who bought outright is earning 0% interest while driving the same new car.

To further demonstrate the point using an extreme example, imagine you bought a brand new car 40 years ago for an MSRP of $5,000 with a 50 year low interest loan. You'd currently be paying that $5,000 loan using 2023 dollars which are worth 209% more than they were in 1983 while the loan is fixed at 2% (or whatever). That $5,000 cash you had in 1983 is now $15,000 in your bank account while you still get the benefit of driving the car over all that time.

  • Nothing per se, but many of these farmers get paid not to grow things and have been doing it for so long that they've found ways to game the system to collect money for nothing all the while electing Republicans to office and complaining about 'welfare queens' eating up all our tax dollars.

  • There are ways to rip physicsl media but they break the encryption which is 'illegal'.

I meant more just having control of the actual files when buying from places like Amazon or ITunes rather than just being given library access to the songs for so long until that company loses the license and deletes them from your library.
