  • This is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of stupidity. Another glaring fact they ignore is that they're using public roads and infrastructure paid for by tax money. Even if they think they aren't 'citizens' of the US they're still subject to US law just like someone visiting from France would be. It's all so dumb.

  • Probably a decade or so. I'm fine for all intents and purposes, but it's not something I'll ever forget and smoking a J immediately after was probably pretty beneficial for any PTSD that might arise from the situation.

  • So old people should never have contracts that expire?

Who said that? I was more inferring that old people shouldn't be kicked out of a senior retirement home because some new wealth management firm bought the property and decided to squeeze the juice out of them. What benefit does that have for the rest of society? It's entirely self-serving.

  • Considering the 5 isn't even being sold yet, I question the validity of your anecdote. The 3B and 4/4B are still hit or miss as far as stock goes. I just bought a 3B from Digikey and it's the first I've seen them in stock since before COVID though it's not as if I've been checking rpilocator daily for updates.

  • There's definitely an argument for not supporting the Pi Foundation with their anti-consumer practices over the last few years. They've sold out to corporate interests and don't give a shit about the educational/hobbyist mission of the original Raspberry Pi.

  • That's too bad because the specs OP listed are pretty great plus I'd love to see the Raspberry Pi Foundation (or whichever corporate entity controls production and sales) knocked down a few pegs due to their anti-consumer behavior over the last several years.

  • The article makes it sound like someone bought the place and jacked up the monthly maintenance fee by $5000 just because "fuck you."

That's exactly what they did though. It's like buying a lifetime app purchase and then a few months later the app goes subscription based and demand you pay more, except this is people's shelter.

  • These are retirees who likely have pensions and 401Ks built up over half a century.

If you want to talk about wealthy people, what about the people who likely spent tens of millions of dollars to buy out the community and then jacked up fees by $50k per year overnight? Why can't they be the ones suffering rather than some 95 year old woman who now needs to move and leave everyone she knows behind?
