  • Reddit leans "acceptable" left, which is basically what the yanks allow.

Reddit's highest concentration of users from 2015 was a US military base

It creates an environment where you can call out billionaires/gun nuts/anti vaxxers/homophobes/Saudis/etc and get upvotes, but it won't let you create an actual opposition to the problem.

Like, surely you have heard about atrocities committed by Saudi Arabia or Israel or other US allies? They get maybe half a day on r/all, compared to any demonstrably less deadly event in Iran/China/Russia that hangs in news subreddits for weeks? Even if it isn't a left wing bias, it's definitely a right wing bias.

  • If you, the civilian, donates to a legitimate cause, the billion dollar company won't be able to claim that donation on their tax deductions.

If they donate, it's a zero sum game. Maybe 5 mins in the spotlight for alturism.

But if you give them the money to donate on your behalf? They don't spend a cent and are able to get tax deductions for "philanthropy". It's the best possible outcome (for the company).

  • When the KMT retreated to Taiwan, my grandfather became the highest ranking CPC cadre in eastern Hubei by pure chance, and so became in charge of the city of Ezhou. The KMT completely abandoned it. Any service, utilities, maintenance, etc provided by the government was abandoned. He arrived at the city's prison to find it completely abandoned of staff, the inmates left to starve in their cells.

Having only Marxist theory and no governing experience whatsoever, one of his first acts after assuming power was to review every single convict in the city prison personally and deem who was to remain (i.e. murderers, Japanese collaborators, etc) and who was to be set free (e.g. debt delinquents, communists, critics of the ROC, etc). He had the files read and interviewed all the prisoners, their alleged crimes and how long their sentences was, and used his very limited power to exonerate those he deemed innocent.

He always said if the retreat didn't happen when it did, if the KMT sounded the retreat a week earlier while he was still in Wuhan, they may have starved.

If it's ever questioned how the KMT with western backing and a numerical advantage lost the civil war, think about how they treat the 老百姓。

From surviving KMT massacres, Imperial Japan, the Long March, a huge disadvantage in the civil war, western imperialism, the Sino Soviet split, attempted colour revolutions, decades of propaganda, trade wars and natural disasters. The people have won. No other ideology could have accomplished this. From illiterate peasants to a nuclear powered, space faring superpower within one lifetime.

  • No matter what they pivot their subsidies to, China has the manufacturing power to fill that role completely unintentionally. It's like being amazed that Yamaha makes musical instruments as well as motorcycles, except it's a whole country instead of one company. The headline would be the same if the subsidy was for E scooters, caviar, semi conductors or horses. A "niche" market in China has more output than entire nations.

If the EU decided to subsidize, idk, electric biplanes at 10 am tomorrow, China would be in the top 5 manufacturers at 10:00:01, and within a year in the top 2.

  • If the west allowed the Soviet Union to bring socialism to Afghanistan, the Mujahadeen would have been a footnote in the pages of history. If you agree with no other part of the USSR, the social and gender equality aspects are surely better than current Russia/Afghanistan. Instead we have Osama doing what he did

  • Warren Buffet invented the buffet (I think) and I met my girlfriend at a buffet. She is a paramedic, I lost consciousness because I drank 4 litres of the truffle bechamel (I did the maths and this would have cost the restaurant slightly more money than the admission fee, hence hurting Warren Buffet's bottom line)

  • What the fuck are you talking about, most Irish don't dislike the IRA, what kind of brain-dead take is that? The 1916 IRA are heroes, the British were bombarding Dublin. The black and tans were gunning down civilians, and the IRA were fighting back.

Now, the PIRA was a lot more disliked by the Irish, but after Bloody Sunday feelings became mixed. A lot of folks were vehemently against the PIRA, a lot were in support, but the vast majority just wanted the bloodshed to end.

Even then, by % of civilian casualties, the PIRA had a 30% civilian casualty rate, which isn't great. But it's literally better than some of the loyalist paramilitaries which had OVER 50% CIVILIAN CASUALTY RATES.

You go to County Clare and yell Tiochfaidh ár lá on a Saturday night and see how ""universally hated"" the RA are.

And you compare them to ISIS? My god.

  • I definitely wouldn't get a Flipper Zero for the purposes of theft. Allegedly it is a legal device that can be re-programmed to disable security tags and open charging ports on Tesla vehicles, which is wrong.

Definitely do not purchase a Flipper Zero and utilize it for theft or disruption. Its purposes are to open garage doors.

  • I'm Chinese and literally grew up with Uyghurs downstairs in Hubei, they and the Hui family around the block were the only ones with more than 1 kid.

If you're referring to something Adrian Zenz said about 80% of new IUDs being sold in Xinjiang, he misread a decimal point 328,475 IUDs in Xinjiang out of 3,774,318. 8.7% of IUDs placed in China were in Xinjiang.

News quoted his 80% figure before he had to retract it, but it's already in the back of people's minds that China's forcibly sterilizing Uyghurs.
