  • Im not confident in that either but this is a situation that the government is likely prepared for. They know that he’s the leader and if you shut him up or take him down then there’s no one to lead or stage coups or collective violence against the state. So his followers are welcome to do whatever they want but it’ll be predictable and infiltrated immediately just like Jan6 was.

However, if he wins there will be no way for the state to oppose him effectively. He’ll gut most of our major departments and do extremely unpopular things without opposition. And we already learned that presidents have far too much unchecked power. If he wins, buckle up.

  • I’ve never had those experiences so that’s odd to me. But even if you aren’t there for the social aspect, it’s still a nice app for organizing and discovering movies. Also nice for navigating movie info like runtime, cast, crew, genre, and themes. Plus you can do what I suggested and find a critic and follow them there where they don’t have to write an article to suggest something to their followers.

  • Honestly Rotten Tomatoes is basically useless when discussing film. I’ve been using Letterboxd for reviews and I get much more insight on if I’ll like the movie.

Because consider that people who post on RT are either snobs, frequent movie goers, or are emotional about the movie in some way. And a critics aggregate is an awful way to do anything which is why metacritic is useless most of the time.

What people should do is take some of their favorite movies or games or whatever and look up reviews. Find ones that you agree with. And then use those sites or people as sounding boards for new movies. If that doesn’t work, move on to the next critic till you find one whose perspective aligns with yours.

  • Well, only for us. I’m sure the intelligence community knows.

  • The reason you were downvoted is because you conflated their comment about gender with one about sex. That’s all.

I don’t see many people conflating the sexes at all really. I just don’t think it matters much to people. Sex is mostly irrelevant unless you’re a medical or scientific professional. The only reason I’ve ever seen anyone concerned about sex differences is because they want to invalidate trans people and claim their gender must align with their sex.

  • Ill be that guy. The comment before yours was mostly referring to gender whereas yours refers more to sex. Two separate concepts. I’d agree with both of you that the sexes are different physically, but our gender stuff is mostly just meme perceptions and not descriptive of reality.

This claim about men’s natural sense of direction is an old myth but it’s important because it affects our ideas of gender being unequal (not sex).

  • Whats weird is that I’ve used VR a lot and if I’m talking while in it or to someone who has the headset on, I don’t mind that there isn’t a personal connection there.

However, I get what this is intended to solve. An upgraded version of this that has much much better quality would actually be really cool and more natural than one might expect.

I don’t want to live in VR but I think this stuff is useful to be able to use VR while still being in the same environment with people.

  • Personally I think that the newer games may be spoiling you with how they combine action and horror. Back when I played it, the survival horror theme was very real. So many new horrors in that game.

And the story is RE at its core but played loosely. It was the last game to be very goofy in the franchise really. Unless we count punching boulders.

So yeah the combat takes a front seat but the shift was necessary. The old mechanics were dated and making RE3 pt 2 may have killed the franchise. So I’m glad how it turned out even if it is very linear.

  • Hard to say. Cars put out before the Model 3 were typically not sold at large quantities. So the lower runs were sold to rich people or fanboys at first and it’s hard to get an honest long term review about them.

From what I’ve seen though, their earlier cars weren’t filled with tech like the newer ones which meant less points of failure so I’m betting the older ones were at least somewhat better.

  • This is interesting because you’re correct that this is almost certainly a dev kit that they’re making people pay for.

However: this is very unlike Apple to do if it’s true. We ask ourselves, “What is the enthusiast or middle class user able to afford for good VR?” And as we’ve seen, consumer headsets are aimed at less than $1000.

So the plan is for Apple to put out an amazing headset with the best materials and best screen and eye tracking and all this, only for them to wait some years before releasing a worse version of this that still costs over $1000? I can’t see how Apple would get beneath this price point. And I can’t see how they’d justify themselves.

So your average consumer isn’t using this anytime soon. Did they just make a weird toy line for the rich?

I’ll stop there, and yes these facts do rotate through my head for no real reason, they’re just fun!

  • I am never worried about guilty people on death row. I am worried about those that kill them, those that help kill them, those that witness the killing, and those who believe falsely that this form of justice will heal anyone from harms or prevent future harms.

  • Or they just shutter twitch once they realize it’s unprofitable.

  • They’re also probably relying on AWS right? I’m assuming the pipeline for serving up prime video would be similar but it’s hard to tell how much that service “makes”. I feel like anything they’re using their own GPUs for is losing quite a bit of money compared to charging their cloud compute customers for it.

If twitch shuts down in a few months I won’t be surprised.

  • That’s how the system is set up. Even if the people in the corporation weren’t greedy, they need the line to go up every quarter. And when the higher leadership recognizes that, they hardly ever think about long term investments. So a corporation is not a money making machine, no, it’s a money maximizing machine. That’s why we call them greedy.

  • I completely forgot about that boss fight (for good reason apparently). So that’s a good point.

And yeah, Warner really had some people cranking out amazing combat through that one singular system. I played both Middle Earth games and you’re spot on. It’s cool to see how the same system is taken in different directions in each one. The current final evolution of it is in the newer Spider-Man games which have added quite a bit to it. That’s another strong recommendation because I see so much of what the Arkham series started being brought back around in Spider-Man. Even the perch takedown system is there in a way.

  • I don’t see people talking about AI in games enough. It is indeed a tool but it’s one that I’m very excited about.

So long as the people who record lines are adequately compensated and the tool is used correctly, I’m very excited about its use. It allows games to feel more unique and random without a huge tax on developers.

It’s possible that instead of generic quests in the form of radiant garbage quests, we can get generated quests and storylines in open world games.

What do the artists do? Well, their writing is still imperative to what the AI says. Rather than writing line by line dialog for NPCs, they can focus so much more on world building and characterization of NPCs.

However, I expect this use to be rare and far out. In the meantime, we’re about to see a mountain of garbage. Lots of indie games are going to use this to great effect though I would bet.

  • There’s also a suggestion implicit in the phrase that the person is not attempting to hide or downplay their identity, that they’re proud of themselves and represent me. It’s a very nice change from phrases I saw growing up.

  • I don’t know if it detracted from the game but that tank definitely didn’t add much of anything. The sections that used it were very boring and I never once felt challenged to play differently with it. I feel that way but I also think the tank fit in to the theme and world just fine. Nothing felt cooler than rolling into the police underground and parking it before heading inside.

I still think the game is a masterpiece and has the best 3rd person combat in a game I’ve played. Mad max is a close second though. Knight was a perfection of the Arkham combat system.

  • Came across this game too. I took a peek in the discussions for the game and oh boy was that a trip. I’d suggest making some post in there about his court cases or something. IMO steam probably shouldn’t allow anything about jones on their storefront period.
