  • I don’t even know if it’s a coincidence. I wouldn’t be surprised if Reddit ran plenty of reposting bots themselves. The R&D budget is probably spent on developing engagement bots on the platform I’d bet. They even ran an experiment where bots were trained by users on the platform via a game where you tried to decide if the user was real or not. That was run a long time ago.

  • This is weird but I had almost the exact same experience. Would’ve been junior high for me when I met him and he talked to me about it every time I saw him after I mentioned it offhand once. It’s all he ever talked to me about. Then years later in high school I had him in a class again and went to say hi and unprompted he began talking about the game again. Definitely an odd experience but I did think about him when I played this game lol.

  • Highly recommend it, especially since you can finish it in only a few days. It’s a nice break game to play when you’re making your way through a longer game too.

  • Not OC but they’re just pointing out that one is free work for a corporation that just paid two people nearly $200 million off your back. Whereas Lemmy moderation is currently just volunteer work in the interest of community. Not saying people can’t profit off of community facilitation, but in that case their moderators are staff and should be treated as such.

  • I’m definitely aware that using a modern controller makes the game harder to control. With the first game, I actually didn’t have a problem with that much. Here though, there’s some real sticking points for me that I feel go beyond the modern controller limits.

The best way to put it is that the trigger button is a layer modifier. It changes most controls in the game to do something different while pressed. In the first game, this was fine because the both layers stayed the same. Here though you now have 3 different layers depending on if you have banjo, kazooie, or both. I got the hang of it but it takes time because it’s more complicated than one might think.

Heres a control guide to demonstrate my point

  • All good points. I didn’t speak much about it here but both games feel very much like tech demos at times. Especially Tooie. And it’s cool that they were trying to explore, but they ended up not connecting the dots as much here. The story was even more in the background than usual. But as I also pointed out, a lot of the games mechanics aren’t consistent or explored fully. So it’s like a bunch of game designers made the game and the art was an afterthought.

  • Sounds like I need to play this game next then. Expect that review in the near future!

  • I don’t write very often so everyone’s feedback here is much appreciated! I’ll work on taking it on board in future since I don’t want my composition to distract from the conversation I’m trying to create.

  • I feel like I’ve seen bits used for storage on the scientific level since stuff like the pits and lands on a disc are expressed that way. To anyone in CS, you’d regard storage as a discrete whole part in some way. So bytes are fine. But when you’re developing storage, I believe you’d be concerned about bit density. Would need to read the paper though.

  • This plan likely won’t work because their party is far from united right now. All it takes is for a few people on their side to call this unreasonable and their excuse falls apart.

My reasoning for this is that it’s exactly what happened with the recent proposed immigration bill. They killed it despite their party negotiating it. So what are their fundamentalists left to think? Did they negotiate it poorly? Are they incompetent? Did Mike Johnson block a good bill? Seems like any excuse they can give insults the party and highlights division.

Same thing here. If they can’t manage a unified message, it’ll be obvious what’s happening.

  • Ofc it’s a joke, not wishing harm on anyone. Deleted it but sorry to everyone who misinterpreted my comment.

  • I think stay tuned because I’m almost finished with Banjo-Tooie now and I’ll be posting that this month. Then I’ll be going to YL and then the second YL game. I’ll let you know my opinion on both and I’d love to hear your comments on those posts when I get them up! I definitely have feelings about what you said lol

  • When I say misinformation and fakery, I mean that this information won’t be the normal type. It’ll be closer to fabrication or lies where the truth is not even partially represented. Same with fakery. It’s the difference between propaganda editing and straight up CGI or photoshop. The propaganda editing is common. Skew the narrative to the point of misinforming. The other type is not currently common. Because making a believable lie vs a parody of the truth takes more time. But AI can and will change that.

For a while now Facebook has been a place of delusion where a different reality exists for people. This will double or triple that disconnect and will likely drive the whole platform into full post-truth but then also delusional truth. I hope I’m wrong but I doubt it.

  • I’ve had family member ask me about AI since I’m younger and I tell them every time that they aren’t ready for it at all. Especially in this years elections, AI will be weaponized immediately. Like in a few months the machines will turn on from countries around the world to generate fake images and mountains of fake articles and videos and sound bites. Basically, the average Facebook user will be flooded with misinformation and fakery to the point of overload.

AI stuff is survival of the believable, not reality. So if you can believe it, even just a little, you will reinforce an AI model on the edge of your disbelief and it is designed to perfect delusion and extremism.

This year will end in tragedy. I guarantee it.

  • You’re not wrong about a lot of these points but I think it’s worth pointing out that each AI application will basically be a separate tool.

For texture work, these tools will be used immediately and probably only have beneficial effects. It will even give premade assets a nice feel AND you can use AI to turn one hand-made texture into a large amount of unique assets. Which helps indies by avoiding the copy/paste feel of their assets. Same is true of models but will take more time for that.

As for voices, what you said is true. A bad human voice is still mostly better than AI. However if you have a lot of dialog or just want to play test, the AI voices are great for that before you ask a human to do the lines.

And as for story and script dialog, AI is already pretty good at this but the application is important. Games that overuse AI to write their story or characters will stand out as really bad. But when used correctly, AI can change generic filler into interesting plot. Or make people say unique things every time you see them. Combine that with voice generation once it’s good and we’re in for some very cool applications.

  • I think the only way that large studios continue to justify their existence is in motion capture acting and detailed open world design. Everything else is now within reach of indies I think.

Don’t just think of graphical improvements either. We can’t leave AI out of this discussion as it is a valuable tool for indie devs and I expect they’ll take advantage of it in the next few years. They aren’t going to replace main stories but I think AI will take the burden off of indie studios for simple dialogue options. Could even be trained to voice act for lesser roles or do some texture work.

  • Well I’d note that technically speaking what they’re saying is NOT that states may not decide who can be elected president but rather that they cannot decide who runs.

One of trumps arguments is that he can run and be elected and appear on the ballot EVEN IF he is not eligible for president. Isn’t that great?

  • If you’re ever arguing with a relative, remember that this is the most unproductive House of Representatives that we’ve ever had. Ever. They’re barely even working in there. Why? Because republicans are sitting on their hands for everything

  • I dont know if you’ve noticed but a lot of these people can’t tell or understand trolling or faking content. Now on this level? Yeah. But it’s so so easy to be a poe in their midst.

My strategy has basically just been to go to their content, go into the comments, and then write something that I feel they’ll mostly agree with but crosses some kind of line.

Like if they’re talking about fluoride in drinking water you just say stuff like “screw the feds poisoning our water, we can find other ways to get hydrated. I just stick to diet cokes, works fine for me. I even cook with it so I don’t poison my food”
