  • It's a machine learning epidemic. Now that blogspam can be automated in a way that Google can't even look for without penalizing a ton of sites because people write in a similar style to ML tools, search is basically fucked in its current form. Back to human hand curated webrings.

Also Kagi sucks worse than Google and DDG for a lot of things. I still pay for it, hoping it gets better, plus they have a lot of useful tools.

Yandex.com is where you'll find movies.

  • politely, pics or GTFO.

Edit: awh man, she actually posted them, but I didn't think to screenshot the notification with the imgur links and now it's gone. First time in history it actually worked and I didn't even get to see it.

  • But it doesn't even occur to people that they could do that. Instead they sit around and do nothing and complain to the county about lack of snow plows, and they stay holed-up in their houses eating junk and getting fat. And when you're fat and lazy, and you've clogged all your arteries with grease, that's why you can't shovel snow without breaking your back and getting a heart attack. That's modern life.

Smartphones and televisions. Modern day bread and circus. Keep them fat and content enough so they don't care to change anything.

  • It's so insane to me how quickly Lemmy almost as a whole has been ideologically subverted, they can not even see wool as it is being pulled over their eyes.

I am a nonbeliever, but I am a truthseeker. The majority of an entire world's generation has already been subverted in one area or another, due to global media. Whether it's Facebook, Twitter, Tiktok or YouTube, Douyin or Telegram; an entire generation has grown up ingesting content specifically engineered to target them and program them to think a certain way.

I suppose it's not much different than traditional television and radio media from the 1920s onward, and paper before that.

The tides are just turning so. much. faster.

May those with the best tooling and best protected undersea cables win.

  • If you act towards everyone else how you act towards your siblings (or parents if you're an only child) and they don't take you to meet up and play often with other homeschooled kids, then yes you're going to be weird.

It's a very accurate stereotype. Have you ever seen an unsocialized dog around other dogs who have been properly socialized? And it takes so many more years to learn human socialization.

    • Former homeschooled kid
  • Why link an irrelevant article from 2005 about IR?

The only hardware an intruder needs is a laptop running Linux, an infrared transmitter and a USB TV tuner. Laurie said the attack can also be performed using the infrared port built into many laptops.

  • He hacked rockstar at a hotel, where he was left with no computers or phones, only to find that the TV had a chromecast, which he used to buy a phone and a keyboard (presumably by selling his monero).

You sure are making a lot of assumptions here and have some very interesting takes. Can you tell me how this would be done without a way to modify the Chromecast?

  • Interestingly this is measurable. I have a garmin watch and whenever children are close for 15 mins, I get a relaxation reminder telling me to do breathing exercises. So this mental defect manifests itself physically.

A stress response is a stress response. When you're feeling that fight/flight response, it's not just in your brain. Maybe you have a bit of a mind/body/heart disconnect - I realized I did many years ago in therapy when I was upset about something and he asked where I felt it and I asked what he meant. I've worked on it since, paying attention to whether I feel a tightness in my throat, stomach, chest, butterflies, etc. It's helped me notice patterns I didn't before.

  • Where did you see that they were a couple?

The newspaper said the unnamed Moroccan man is married to a woman of Spanish origin with two children, and that Mr Puech refers to them as his “children”, “daughter-in-law” and “adopted son”.

It said he was particularly touched at the way they looked after him during the Covid pandemic.

Sounds like he's a reclusive hermit who inherited family wealth, and wants to give it to the only friends/family he has.

  • Wars have been going on in Iran since forever. There was a brief slice of westernization for less than a decade in the 70s, those pictures of rich people in the capital city center everyone's oohs and aahs over, we did that. USSR was doing their best to exert their influence and turn Iran into a communist nation, and a handful of small groups were vying to take communism out of the equation. We funded them, although I'm sure money was coming in from more than one or two nations as Iran is a very important global geopolitical chess piece, and it eventually fell apart.

No, the US is not a paradigm of democracy, and yes we will do what we need to, to prevent anyone else from becoming the dominant global superpower. Expect war with China by late 2027.

  • And of course the neutral take is the downvoted one. I thought Reddit was bad about detecting bots and state actors, but Lemmy is open sourcing season propaganda trolling.

I guess it makes sense when you can spin up your own instance, post legitimate things and get people to flock to it, and then have a small number of users start posting anti-Western propaganda with 'just the other normal Average Joe users' upvoting it, and the only way to effectively block it is by defederating that instance.

Since it's all federated, it'll be interesting to see OSINT groups like Bellingcat or the 100 others do an analysis on propaganda and automated bot activity on Lemmy, and how much of it was detected and removed. I'll bet it's less than 5%.

  • They didn't move them, they're just building new fabrication plants here so we don't have to depend on threatened foreign land for the production. https://pr.tsmc.com/english/news/2977

Also SMIC (China's chip manufacturer) is now also producing 7nm chips, even though they were sanctioned in 2020. That means they either had a breakthrough in the process or they obtained and were able to repair and operate/reverse engineer the incredibly complex TSMC fabs.

  • Iran wouldn't have been in the state it's in if the US hadn't staged a coup there because they didn't like the leftist leader people democratically elected.

I think you need to brush up on your history a bit my friend, here's a good starting point: https://www.britannica.com/event/Iranian-Revolution
