  • Stuck.. who would want us? Every country I'd like to live in would require me to be very rich or have a usable skill set. While I have the latter it also needs to be provable which is difficult.

I should have bolted when I was younger but i just didn't have the knowledge.

  • I didn't mean to imply it wasn't possible. I have a relative that works for ITER. And similarly it's possible but not in my lifetime i imagine.

It might seem silly to relate the 2 but it's just a feeling.. major applicable innovation seems lacking.

Also waiting on sodium-ion or glass batteries as well.

  • Thanks, you made me feel better! And it's nice to know some cats enjoy belly rubs and won't tear you apart for it.

I worked with big cats for a bit so maybe I'm just cautious but I've spilled blood too many times for touching the belly. Only rescue I took in that was a skeleton yet somehow pregnant likes it. I gave her kittens good homes after they were old enough to be fixed and in one case a 18hrr drive.

As much as the last rescue would like to come in he stays outside but has the garage. It's on purpose because I'm a sucker and can't save them all and he defends the territory. He vanished for 6 weeks and showed back up with a clipped ear and no "package". City thing I guess but 6 weeks? I wish i could hear that story. Sorry for the unrequested story but he deserves to be logged in internet history. His name is Vibe.

  • I'll get a lot of hate for this but when you say pi you mean pi4. I kept seeing this HA on lemmy and tried it on a pi2. I don't know if it worked or not, it's a very bloated piece of software. After an hour of waiting I installed docker and the HA instance on my main server (which is ancient) in under a minute.

It's cool and all but my feit dimmers require some pcb work and flashing to be compatible so verify what devices you have before you hop in.

I used to have an automated building running on a bare 386 and a floppy drive. Hate on me all you want but sending simple commands like turn device on shouldn't require a giant software package but otherwise HA is neat, just a lot of overhead i can't exactly justify.

    Worth trying out though.

I think reflow stole a lot of their code.

  • That would be amazing.. imagine face planting from a stupid stunt and being like no biggie they'll grow back. Works for kids and we already know from admittedly gross tumors the human body can grow hair and teeth. Just have to get them in the right place.

Also agree with the other comment to your post.. crispr will likely be for the rich. Hell, it probably already is. A cynical view but i don't sit at that table so who knows.

  • Thank you for confirming I'm not crazy. At least in that aspect. And also, as someone who has spent an insane amount of hours in that chair thank you for being a DA and dealing with us.

  • The article mentions CA still enforcing net neutrality rules. How does that work? Eventually you have to hop outside the state for many services.. are those backbones required to abide by those rules or can they still throttle as a result being out of state?

I firmly believe in all data being treated equally for the record and I hope this gets fixed. ISPs were kind of slow on throttling but it's becoming more and more obvious in the last couple years in my experience.

  • I appreciate your response. The Momentum 4 seems like it would suit me but the app thing.. why do they need an app? Everything should be built in.

I'll dig a little deeper but hey thanks for putting me on to something i haven't even heard of. I need to get out more I guess.. noise cancelling has been around for a bit but I didn't like early products much. But have always had respect and good results from Sennheiser, will give it a go. Based on what Sony did to people that had their high end earbuds I'm wary of them and apps in general that load firmware with no reversion so i probably won't look into those.

  • I could be crazy but I swear I've heard this a number of times before. It always seemed wonderful as my teeth tend to self-destruct. But nothing ever seems to come from it.

It would be nice if we just naturally grew a new set every 10 years or so but people with strong teeth would be quite annoyed at that especially if they had to do alignment.

  • Do you mean active noise cancelling? If yes, do you have any recommendations?

I have some nice wired IEMs that kinda do the job but only problem is I catch myself almost dancing as I get lost in my own world hah

  • That's a fair point. There aren't any rules with cats. That was just my experience and in case it matters all my cats were rescues. Perhaps for a reason! But I feel bad now with the downvotes and should add they all have good lives but each has a very different personality to deal with.

  • I don't know . I had a cart full of everything from window blinds to steaks and for me it seemed like an ordeal because its an unknown.

And let's be fair, it's not a matter of scanning and moving on, that would be easy. Each item has to be scanned one at a time, and then weighed and bagged. Takes forever and in my experience something always goes wrong and I get "please wait for cashier / assistance".

Maybe just bad experiences or I am perhaps an idiot when it comes to them.

To the point of the topic: keeping my head down while someone scans my items and then swiping my card is far easier than all the attention and interactions I create with the self checkout machines.

  • Is that a female cat? If so tummy rub is good IF she's had kittens. Beyond that, total trap!

Cats don't generally like a tummy rub otherwise, at least in my experience. And if not a mama cat better get ready for some blood! (And I'm not saying mama cats are safe either - vicious creatures!)

  • That actually sounds cool. My experience with downtown areas has been less than positive.. more of a maze, everything very overpriced.. now that I think about it it's very similar to a large airport.

Shame as it'd be nice to just walk around for all your needs.. you'd think it would actually be more cost effective.

  • Anyone want an old HD homerun prime? It's just collecting a lot of dust. Not sure if I still have the PSU but i think it's just a standard 12v. I've had it utilize a cable card before no prob. But I don't use it, never have.

    Model is HDHR-3CC

    IPTV probably easier though.

  • I run insider so I get GSODs.. sucka

Nah some notes most people could ignore would be nice. I have no idea what that machine is doing half the time but it's certainly nothing positive.

  • I know this all too well. Grain-free food seems to really help.

Sometimes Fluffy urps in the corner. Fluffy knows better than that.

Cats are fun I like them

  • As an introvert i hate it. It's always loud and temperamental and really if anything i should get a discount for using it.

Once did a late night Walmart run for a bunch of random stuff. Only to come up to no cashiers. Luckily the sweet girl at the self check out saw my panic and used a bar code scanner to get me on my way

When it just scans tags as i push my cart through I'll consider self checkout. Otherwise it just feels like I'm working for free.

  • VPN is great and a solution but it can also be a hassle in many configurations.

And really there is nothing stopping them from throttling secure traffic unless you buy a business plan or whatever they come up with.

I hope it can be reinstated because allowing ISPs to throttle various traffic gives absolutely no benefit to the end user.
