I mean that although it doesn't include the most egregious functions of corporate social media platforms it is still built around features like upvoting/liking, and infinite scroll, which were originally designed to 'gamify' social media in order to make it more addictive.
People blame algorithms a lot but I think even the core design means that social media is too addictive. Lemmy is addictive even with no algorithm or dodgy corporate ethics for example.
There's been a lot of turd-polishing and pleasejustalittlebitbroism when it comes to social media in my opinion.
YUNOhost is designed for this. You can do almost everything graphically via the webadmin. Mine has been running for a couple of years and I'm very happy with it. I have email, XMPP (both of which were installed out of the box), a website, file sharing and a few other things. There are a tonne of apps available, including Fediverse instances, Nextcloud. It's a very cool thing to have available for making self-hosting more accessible.
I think I still have some grief from all of them. I don't see it as a bad thing though, just a measure of how much love I've had in my life. On a practical level, I think it can help you to see what you've got with the person you're with when you can remember what it is to lose it.
I think I see grief as an aspect of love tbh. It's painful but sweet and beautiful all the same.
Tax evasion/fraud. I think they were involved with arms and drugs too but it was the tax that they got nailed for. Spent most of their twenties doing some very hard time.
A couple of guys I went to school with got up to some mischief in Thailand and got sent to prison there for a few years. They were pretty different by the time they got home.
