  • I think you misunderstood the title. Iran did not attack anyone, it's militants in Syria who launched attacks and where the USA did already strike back.

And if you want to argue that supporting parties in a conflict should allow airstrikes on the supporting country, that argument is a dangerous double-edged sword. As then your argument would open up strikes on western countries who support parties in a foreign conflict as well. E.g. that argument would fit into Russia's narrative of the war, claiming all the west is fighting against them in Ukraine.

  • I feel the very specific community topic split is already affecting Lemmy negatively. So I think having larger, broader community topics (e.g. 'commuting' instead of a community for every single option to commute by itself), with more diverse content, interaction and of course more visible activity, would also attract new users.

Right now some communities are so specific, that by its creation, it's a filter bubble by design. And then of course you don't get a lot of content or interaction, as only yea-sayer get accepted.

Interaction requires different approaches, opinions, options and of course people who upvote them even when disagreeing. The reply box is the correct option when disagreeing, not the downvote. That's how Lemmy will sprout.

tl;dr Broader community topics for larger, more diverse and more active communities

  • Could very well be targeted at premeditated offences, where team and driver evaluate what's cheaper. Not breaking the rules and not gaining a certain advantage – or breaking the rules, gaining an advantage and paying a (small) fine, as the the advantage is worth more than the penalty costs.

This equation changes a lot with a 1m Euros maximum fine and maybe prevents decisions to break rules.

  • Lots of Islamic Jihad & Hamas missiles fail during flight and kill Palestinians. Israel had published videos in the past showing e.g. 8 launches at night, pausing the video and showing how 2 or 3 suddenly turn down to the ground to hit the Gaza strip. And of course the local terrorist groups accounted dead Palestinians to Israel striking those locations. It's sometimes easy to show, with visible rocket engines at night and sometimes harder.

  • A coal plant takes weeks to start up, so I assume those reactivated plants from the emergency reserve will have to run the whole winter duration at least at low power. So in case of a very cold winter and gas shortage, the emergency plants can be turned up.

  • "Fifty terrorists arrived in vans, dressed in military uniforms," she said.

It is not far from the Gaza Strip, from where Hamas fighters crossed over at dawn to launch their attack. They infiltrated towns and villages, taking dozens of people hostage.

How is that possible to get that many armed people and vehicles across THAT border? I have never been there, I only know pictures of parts of the border from media, with barb wire fences, walls, concrete blocks, surveillance cameras, military checkpoints. Pretty much a border made to prevent anything like this.

Does anyone have further information where or how they managed to get that many people with that much equipment into Israel?

  • I used Google translate for the above. Here is DeepL as alternative:

"VW brand boss Thomas Schäfer wants to save ten billion euros by 2026 in order to meet return targets set by the Group's Board of Management."

So they wrote down some money making numbers on paper for 2026, but to get there, they need to save 10 billion euros.

  • Looking at latest reports two days ago from Volkswagen Cars about cost saving, this might be a wider cuts plan in the whole Volkswagen group. But that's just me speculating.

"Volkswagen finance chief issues savings targets" "In an internal letter, the managers of the Volkswagen brand are advised to reduce costs. Among other things, capacity savings are planned." "The savings efforts at the core brand of the Wolfsburg car company are gaining momentum - VW brand boss Thomas Schäfer wants to save ten billion euros by 2026 in order to create return targets for the group's board of directors."

  • This issue has likely been caused by the high-frequency interference between the tyre sidewall and the 50mm ‘pyramid’ kerbs used extensively at this circuit, aggravated by the propensity to ride those kerbs.

Doesn't seem hard to adjust. They already write in #1 to revise the track limits so drivers don't hit those kerbs as much. On the other hand, they could also do nothing and drivers on their own don't risk tyre damage on those kerbs with 'subsequent air loss' which would cost them the race. But that might be bad publicity for Pirelli at the end.

By the way, during the search of an image of those kerbs, I found the same story from 2021 with the same kerbs and problems:

  • There is no one to blame but Putin.

This is an emergency procedure due to Russia's invasion in Ukraine. Without the invasion, the backup coal plants would just stay backup. As coal plants need weeks to start up, they cannot just be turned on when needed. They need to be turned on early and likely run with low power through the winter, just in case they might be needed. This is bad too. This is due to Putin's war.

It's silly to make connections to the 1986 & 2011 nuclear exit, when the cause for this short-term measure is a recent event. Without Russia invading Ukraine, the coal plants would stay off.

  • Katalin Karikó, born in 1955 in Szolnok, Hungary, senior vice president at BioNTech RNA Pharmaceuticals until 2022, now external consultant.

Drew Weissman, born in 1959 in Lexington, Massachusetts, USA, RNA researcher and patent holder, that were used in the BioNTech & Moderna Covid-19 vaccines.

  • The article is quite harmless compared to the silly title.

But the main argument is that Android has too many settings and options where users don't even know what they are good for. And with further development it's getting more features and more options.

That seems to be a very minor and rather luxury problem to have more and more features and options.

On the PC, there are lots of programs that already use a short list of options available and then a checkbox with 'I'm an expert' or 'Advanced settings' to show them all. More settings means more freedom for the user to chose from. Hiding them would be a simple task. But just because they exist and are shown, this doesn't mean that anyone has to click on anything without even knowing what it does. So it's not really a problem besides reading 3 more words in the list of settings but not doing anything with it.

For options I don't know, I just use a web search in case I'm interested. Or I just ignore them as long as I don't have a problem related to the topic.

  • In the 1st step, maybe a year ago or so, they updated the Kasa app (v 3?) to only function with account and while being logged in at TP-Link servers to use your devices. And in now the 2nd step, they integrate Kasa into Tapo, which was always account-bound. The 3rd step is then probably the discontinuation of the Kasa app.

Kasa was their more premium product line, that was usable without internet connection and without manufacturer account - which is why I paid more to get those instead of the cheap Tapo products. But now my 'smart' power outlets are in a box in the basement collecting dust and I cannot recommend anyone to spend money on TP-Link smart products, as they remove features after sale.

  • I'd totally pay 65€ per year to watch the races! Unfortunately, the F1TV product is not available for me due to exclusive broadcasting rights by Sky. And they don't have a F1 subscription, but only multi-sport-bundle at 28€ per month.

  • Most comments so far are negative but not really saying why. What would be different compared to now in your country? Or is it just a dislike of the company Apple?

Officially, I'd have to pay 28€ per month for some pay tv subscription to watch it. The amount of races I can watch (time zones; other appointments) during the season is probably 15 out of the 22 in the calendar. So with 336€ for 12 months and 15 races, I'd have to pay 22.40€ for each race I'm watching. That is totally ridiculous, so I'm watching random free streams I can find somewhere on the internet. Or I'm simply not watching at all, if there is no free stream available.

I don't really see this getting worse with any other company or Apple. It could stay just as bad and I'm not paying anyone - or maybe get better.
