We learned a lot about Fani Willis last week. Absolutely none of it was relevant.

Today, that is largely true, and it's because that's specifically how the Constitution was written, to decentralize government as much as possible while still forming an operable union.

But the first order of business for any authoritarian government is to suspend and/or alter and/or defang any existing constitution.

Once Trump gets into office, any powers reserved to the states by the constitution will quickly be centralized back into the federal government, and he will indeed pardon himself at every level, with no one and nothing left to stop him.

This is just one of the reasons why it is SO much easier to stop an encroaching authoritarian government at the ballot box: once they get in, everything is dismantled or destroyed -- except for that which can be fed into the power machine keeping the tyrant in place. The pardon system is no exception.

Federation means Musk can buy a single instance, or even a hundred instances, but cannot prevent anyone else from simply opening another somewhere else and making their own portal to the same content he wants to collect behind a paywall (if he even could).
