  • Reddit is fun croaked for me last week, now I'm all Lemmy!

Unless lemmy crashes, then I lurk reddit signed out with browser.

As the crashes and maintenance here become less frequent and the platform is more reliable I'm ready to leave reddit in the dust entirely

  • I do believe some Canadian industries should be subsidized by private interests because they're just selling our own resources back to us, and they should pay for the privilege (while still receiving some profits). Telecom, utilities, energy, farms over certain capacities etc.

News Probaby shouldn't be one. I'm more than happy with government funded news so long as its independent of government and held to a higher standard than "entertainment" like we have with our neighbours to the south. This forces private news to compete with a competent news source, and it's not like the business model for news has really changed by much, selling ad space next to information, or offering subscriptions is as old as information sharing.

  • I'm okay with him being mocked with his own meme format, this doesn't quite hit that note though

"I'm a terrible human funded by other terrible humans : change my mind" is the way this meme should be used going forward.

It's no longer a useful meme for social commentary, and should really only be applicable when discussing how much of a piece of shit this human turd is.

  • While I haven't read the full report, I've never seen an assessment review the entire supply chain that is usually vertically integrated.

"costs go up" isn't some event that happens only because of drought/war/etc. It's true that resources are not always equally available, and prices can reflect this.

But when a supply chain is nearly entirely vertically integrated within 3 monopolies (oligopoly), there are plenty of costs that can be raised just because.

If there are 5 steps in the supply chain from farm to shelf, and the farm costs go up, every step in the supply chain can raise costs. If someone owns the entire supply chain, there are now 5 opportunities for someone to pay themselves, funded by the end consumer retail price.

It's painfully obvious that the lack of competition is encouraging unmitigated greed. They're using half assed myopic "studies" to suggest record profits aren't because of Greed since the last stage of the supply chain isn't exclusively where the gouging happens as if it's the only place profits can occur.

  • It's literally cartoon villain level headlines of evil and some people will still play the both sides game as if its a close call.

Things like water, shade, and breaks are somehow woke, and can be added to the pile of totally normal and reasonable things that benefit nearly everyone but are now bad because the angry person on tv made this face while talking about it 😡

  • I'm fine being downvoted to oblivion by some anti-good astrotufing campaign, but it's getting honest, legitimate opinions slid down and out of discussion that feels risky

I'm definitely anti right wing, but that doesn't automatically make the left right about everything.

What is true about both sides is that some people just wanna look for a fight/argument and dehumanize their political 'other'. It's easy dopamine and righteous rage that drives engagement in every human.

Any good faith comment that points this out in an argument and has credible examples is always worth its salt.

I actually like finding out I'm wrong or my information is incomplete/outdated. I don't care for unfounded opinions in myself or others regardless of how they make me feel!

  • Just let people live jfc.

One day I hope bigots get harassed as wholly and completely the way they feel inspired to harass others.

Religion has some great lessons and teachings for peace, but that's never what it actually exports. It's functionally a veil for atrocities and society needs to stop tolerating it they way it does.

  • At this point I'm not sure if it's undiagnosed adhd that makes me socially isolate, or if it's genuinely better just chilling with my wife and her family who are pretty rad compared to everyone else I meet.

  • At the grocery store I'll buy almond/oat etc ice cream, but sometimes the ice cream shops only have dairy, or if I'm at friends/family and they only have regular ice cream.

Lactose is in nearly everything from chips, to baked goods, to some random noodles, sauces, and everywhere in between.

If I'm outside of the home and planning on eating I'm 100% strapped with lactose pills
