  • Oh! Haha now I know who you are talking about. Yes he is very.... Intense on Bluesky. I must say I understand. Living in this world is like taking crazy pills and I can understand "just reciting reality out loud for as many people to see" as a coping mechanism.

  • I redid the bathroom when COVID hit (was walking around home Depot the day before the shut down frantically buying 3 of everything so I had a chance to do this without being able to make the customary mid-project visits)

The toilet we got was not the one I wanted, it was 4 or 5 on our list of "toilets the Internet says are good " and boy howdy the Internet was wrong. This toilet wouldn't flush piss. I'm not kidding I didn't notice at first but a couple days into "man this toilet didn't like to flush our shits, they must be mighty" I had a pee that was dark enough that once I flushed I read like "wtf". 3 flushes for the water to be "clear" as I could tell.

    This isn't a 2 button eco toilet.

I ended up finding a guy online who had extended the tube inside the tank to be just shy of the rim, thus allowing the tank to fill up more and more water to be sent down with each flush. Whatever eco feature it had in sure it's now among the worst water waster in town.

And it's still a terrible toilet. It has some sort of extra funnel port in the front that I guess some of the water flushes through to help direct the shit and water down the pipes. But it gets dirty and is unreachable with every toilet brush I've tried, and not visible even if you jam your head down as close to the water as you can and look back. This means that the flush stops working and then I have to go in with disposable chop sticks and chip away and the shit fossils blindly until the port is clear again.

Yes I tried soaking with green goblin and leaving the blue duck to soak, still need to physically mine the area clear....

  • Ok so my father makes his own wine, at home from kits/concentrate. He makes a lot of wine and drinks a lot of wine (and gives a lot of wine away as gifts)

One day he called me, and he was so excited. Like if he wasn't a 61 year old man I would have guessed he was going to announce his pregnancy.

"You won't believe it! The wine place is selling bags now!!! So I can put my wine in bags and put those in boxes!!!! Omg why didn't I think of this?! Think of all the time saved with corks and recorking!"

It was a happy day for him, certainly.

  • Same. Then I had to hear an endless stream of whining for over a year because my other half likes the old style for reasons. It got so bad I bought them a shit one for Christmas, and now I'm faced with the stupidity of having 2, but the sadness that I'm gonna end up putting the good one in the donation bin because reasons.

  • I don't know.... I had a guy doing some landscape work for me and despite not engaging him he kept dropping comments about how great Trump was and how excited he was that he had just been reelected. Eventually he started asking directed questions and while I kept my answers honest and short, ("I think he is a terrible person by all metrics, including the 4 years he previously spent fucking things up, and anyone who voted for him is a fool at best and a psycho at worst") he kept driving home how great Trump was and how this will really save our country.

He eventually asked me where I get my news and I told him, and he said "see I don't trust any of those guys anymore, I like to get my news from various sources, I'm actually listening to a lot of Russian news these days."

I asked him if he knew Russian and he said no, and asked him who the target audience might be for those news outlet (he had asked about who my news sources were catering too), but he didn't seem to catch on.

Also fun fact we are in Canada facepalm.

He didn't like talking much about Canadian politics, I think because I had answers to most of his really dumb "questions", whereas I wasn't listening to 10 hours of Russian propaganda at the time so didn't know all the angles he was using about how smart Trump's picks were and how Harris was the literal devil.

  • That is correct, not only an election, but the Liberals are currently having a leadership race. Then the asshat conservatives will vote no confidence and we will have to have an election and possibly follow the states into stupidity.

I'm really hoping the glow from the dumpster fire down south hits the conservatives up here and makes them think... Even if it's just for a moment. Hope is the word though....

  • So you are gonna have to provide a source explaining how the president using an executive order to rename international water is "policy" that Google must follow.

They you'll have to explain why I, as a Canadian, have to see this stupid renaming in parentheses.

If the US truely doesn't have a system beyond "once the president orders it, it's renamed." That's their problem but I don't give a fuck what they call things and I don't know why google thinks I should.

  • I'd like that but full electric, minimum 500km in the "tank" I had an all electric vehicle and LOVED everything about it, except the range. Then eventually I needed a truck for my job (but I did cram my Kia Soul to the brim for the 3 years I had it.)

I'd buy a hybrid though, if that's what was available.

  • I must say I e never played Skyrim, and I didn't know how beautiful it could be. I might have to have a closer look.

I play a game called "The Long Dark", and the first screenshot with the aurora made me do a double take. In that game you are alone in a northern Canadian region that has been abandoned both due to economics as well as some in game magic that makes electricity not work. The survival mode is just "live as long as you can, then die." It's permadeath and can be incredibly frustrating and cruel, but the beauty in that game is unreal. I've ended a 6 day run (nothing to me now, but a big acheivement at the time) because I was watching the Aurora on a clear winter night. The music was somber and I thought I might freeze to death as I crossed this long rope bridge. I should have been looking at the bridge, because staring up into the sky I suddenly was getting further away from it .... It was maybe a 3 second fall as I realized I either walked off the bridge or maybe there was a gap or something.

"You have faded into the long dark." -wasn't even mad.

  • "No arrests were made"

Because half the people in the U-Haul were probably co-workers.

It baffles me that in this day in 2025, with hundreds of data points being reported hourly, that we can't look at the obvious preferential treatment fascists get from their cop buddies. Had that been a Free Palestine protest and some racist nutjob showed up to harrass them, the cops would have cleared the bridge and arrested a handful of the protestors, MAYBE one of the nutjobs IF they were REALLY pushing it. Then they'd find a reason why that bridge can't be used for protesting, release the nutjob with a "stern" warning and rake all the protestors across the coals with any minor "disturbing the peace" type charges so they have a record for next time.

  • I don't know. Listening to PP on the radio the other day was, as usual, brain cell melting.

"We are under attack from the south! They are putting America first! Therefore We need to"put Canada First!" (Not a direct quote, was a soundbite on the 4pm CBC news radio as best I recall it)

Sir... When your idiot neighbours are in a democratic spiral to hell, maybe DON'T try and steal their slogans. I'm no political analyst but it's ....possible... the strategies they are using are at best ineffective.
