  • Icon design and name guidelines are too strict. Many apps already on the store break them.

    • E.g. the 20 characters limit is to small for even two long words.
    • Or not allowing PascalCase, disallows many app names like LibreOffice.

And app icons have to be "In line with contemporary styles", which is currently flat and simple design. Contemporary styles change all the time. If an app wants to look old, why not let them?

Someone on the internet with their opinion on video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYqYpbMY9vE

Edit: Generally these guidelines are good and will improve the browsing experience on flathub. Hopefully they'll loosen some of those icon and naming restrictions.

  • Not really, usually Steam packages on distributions aren't maintained by Valve. The only exception are .debs from their website. Even the Steam flatpak is community maintained.

I've had no issues with steam on nixos/nixpkgs. Flatpak also had it's fair share of bugs and games not working because of flatpak and proton using bubblewrap for sandboxing. Snaps sandboxing might cause those issues too, so hopefully they'll be fixed at some point (or even better, Ubuntu switches to flatpak for desktop apps).

  • It adds somewhere in the ballpark of 200ms to app spawning time on the flagship devices and is only very noticeable on lower-end devices with a weaker CPU and slower storage.

"Very noticeable on lower-end" devices is definitely true. Default GrapheneOS has really slow app start times on my Pixel 4a. It even made me switch to CalyxOS for a while, befiore I found out I could disable this security feature.

  • It's a fork, done by a previous Tachiyomi developer and maybe a TachiyomiSY developer too. So it's partly a publishing team change, as the main developers are different.

Since Mihon is exactly the same as Tachiyomi, besides changed branding and requiring Android 8+, it's also a rebrand.

Edit: It's also functionally exactly the same software.

  • Kakao (hopefully) won't get to know the real names of the developers, which will prevent them from suing the devs personally.

They could try to DMCA claim the repo, but Tachiyomi is completely legal, so hopefully Github won't take it down. Github previously helped youtube-dl after they got DMCA notices.

  • As far as we know, TachiyomiSY has the same relationship with Mihon as it did with Tachiyomi previously. Maybe it'll change since SY's dev is also said to work on Mihon, but we'll see.

At the moment Mihon is the same as Tachiyomi with changed branding.

  • I can delete most of the 20 GB of video, as it's also uploaded to my photo gallery (Immich). Maybe another 5GB of apps that aren't necessary, which often need a few hundred MB (Paypal 0,5GB).

Anyway, an SD card would solve those issues. Hopefully 256GB will finally be enough storage.

  • After phone storage got beyond 32GB, I thought I won't need a microSD slot anymore. I was wrong and my 128GB are full again. Downloading shows and music in high quality needs quite a bit of storage, not to mention videos. As if to make matters worse, the OS takes up more storage than my first two phones had at all.

  • If anyone's wondering why Mihon looks slightly different than Tachiyomi, the reason is this is a fork of TachiyomiSY, which has some changes/features over Tachiyomi (e.g. a predicted next chapter release date).

What I wrote is all wrong. I've just looked through the commit history and Mihon is a fork of Tachiyomi and currently it doesn't have any changes besides branding and being Android 8+.

I don't know why I believed otherwise, but it might be F-Droids 3 months old Tachiyomi build, which lacked many features compared to up-to-date TachiyomiSY.

  • Avatar: TLA was what actually got me into anime, which then got me into manga. But yes, manga/anime are specifically japanese comics/animated shows. While ATLA borrows quite a bit (imo) from japanese styles, it's distinctly more like western cartoons.

  • Not enough time to properly regroup makes QP: Hacked more annoying for me, because most games feel like a single big fight. Additionally, the short respawn time gives an advantage to fast heros, while stalling for team mates to arrive makes Mei and similar stronger compared to regular QP.

Whether a match is good or bad means much less to me if I have 3 more in the next 20 minutes.

Edit: But I'd also like shorter match preparation time in quick play.

  • Sadly it works for YouTube. Yesterday I noticed a friend disabled uBlock Origin on YouTube. They don't care that there's workarounds, they'd rather watch 2 min ads than read up about something they are not interested in.

  • Whether the site’s operator made $35 million from advertising remains a question, [...]

I'm really curious, where this much money would come from. Advertising on these sites isn't as lucrative and I won't believe that they made on average 0.5$ from each visitor. Don't people use ad blocking?

  • Hopefully their personal information won't be found out by those lawyers, or they could also be threatened into stopping development. It's sad to see how companies are bullying volunteers into stopping legal projects.

Edit: SLAPP suits are similar to this, where companies file lawsuits while knowing they'd lose, if the defendent had the time, money and stress tolerance to win the lawsuit. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strategic_lawsuit_against_public_participation

  • It's sad to see companies threatening completely legal projects, knowing that the volunteering developers don't have the time and money to win a lawsuit against a large company with lawyers. It's nothing less than bullying volunteers, or similar to SLAPP suits.

    Edit: typo
