Do you really think it would be a major addition to their views if even a whole major instance of lemmy joined? The bot accounts alone being used there would overshadow the number of lemmings that engage there. And that doesn't even count streamers with tens of thousands of minions. Even if 20,000 lemmings went there, it won't make a mark. A lot of people, shockingly, are still ignorant of what happened. Idk how that's even possible but there you go.
They. Will. Get. Their. Views. Regardless.
Might as well get something out of it.
Your engagement is more important to them than your message.
Not if your message would prevent them from using it for advertisers. They've been removing nipples, dicks, piss, guillotines, etc and people still put them there. How do you think advertisers will react to that when they don't want their brands associated with "unsavory" stuff?
It's not similar between apps, either, even with the same account. If you're on Android, you can use Voyager and Connect and it'll show you different numbers. Another thing is that it fluctuates. I see my "karma" on Voyager is around 14 points now, whereas I made a post comment quite recently where I also checked and I had around 40.
So as a karma system, it's unreliable enough imho that it's not gonna (or shouldn't) affect users as much as reddit's karma system. It's also another reason why I decided not to switch to kbin.
I just saw your post. I have this thread bookmarked since it's pretty interestibg, tbh. I'd love to know what exactly happened.
I completely agree wih those 3 points, although I do think #1 is pretty weak (no offense, but I considered that and I wrote it off).
#2 is interesting because of the timing. I saw the owner post about it, but there was no indication that he was in a panic because of it. Personally, so far I am leaning towards this as the smoking gun, although the donation links being down kind of throws a wrench there.
#3 is something I believe can be significant. Problem is idk much about that area.
Finally someone who gets it. Imo, the comments asking those people to hand over bank details and similar stuff can harm the argument. I mean, if someone told me that, I'd just say I do that every time I go to the bank. Or my bank has those details and they're made up of people like me. It won't really convince me that privacy is important since most of them probably have never experienced getting their accounts hacked.
+1 to Mint for beginners, but I'd rather go Debian (stable) than Ubuntu tbh. It's quite straightforward and I don't think new guys would have a lot of issues with it.
Valid point (and one I initially did not consider). But I still stand by what I said, although I admit it can be more flexible if you're contractually bound to write a series. Maybe a few years' worth of extensions per entry or it starts after a series is over? Certainly not 70 years after an author's death. We know books depend on popularity to sell, and we've seen only a few (relatively) authors get rich on their books alone.
10 years is a long time - I would not stay in a job that doesn't pay enough for my needs for 10 years no matter how much I enjoy it. My problem is I admittedly am not well-versed in that specific industry (trusted resources are welcome as I've tried searching but I don't recognize many of the websites so idk how reliable they are). But an increase in salary (or advances) and/or royalties may be in order. I think everyone is entitled to that at this point.
Again, this is from my admittedly limited knowledge in that specific industry, so feel free to correct me. It's just that imho IP rights, as they are today, is kind of ludicrous.
I agree with you both, although imho 15/20 is a bit too long? The only reason being something can be improved better(?) by multiple entities working on it (competitively) than a single entity. Maybe 10 years? I'm thinking if I have an invention (let's say a new engine), 10 years should be enough for me to earn my share. After that, other companies/individuals can use my base/foundation and build on it. With more people working on that engine and competing with each other, the end product would probably be much better than when I work at it alone.
From what I've read (take this with a grain of salt), the person you're talking about cracks games with a much older version of denuvo. They're apparently a lot easier to crack than those being done by this psycho.
It's also inconsistent between apps (you can check Voyager and Connect if you're on Android), and if you check mine it would probably be different from what I see. Personally, I'd like it to stay that way. The reddit karma system has its pros, but imho it doesn't outweight the negatives.
Dang. I forgot about the stutters. It felt... Bloated somehow? Idk how to describe it. Joey, on the other hand, felt pretty "light" to me. Easier to navigate and you can personlize it, too.
Honestly? Yes. I've tried to make it work twice, both times because of the chat feature. Couldn't stand it. Playing videos is 50/50, threw a few errors at me that I never experienced with TPAs, it's highly unintuitive specially with those huge ads taking up most of the space.
Yes. It's awful. It was so bad I stuck with a TPA and just used chat (if I had to) on browser on my pc.
Ah yes, the old "It's still engagement" angle.
