  • Dude was forced to buy Twitter because he couldn't stop his big mouth. Seems he hasn't learned. Lmao.

  • Ann Wilson (Heart) always makes me smile when I watch her live performances.

  • True. That's Reddit's goal though, not the protestors'. I think they'd rather the protestors leave, tbh.

I did go back for r/place, but I haven't touched reddit since. For me, the goal was/is to find a decent alternative so I won't have to put up with reddit. I found it so that's a win for me. Although I'm not gonna lie and say i may still visit for some info that I won't be able to find someplace else (reddit has acquired tons of useful information over the years, unfortunately).

  • Yeah. Idk why some people think the goal was to kill reddit.

  • Oh definitely. The bots there are a major problem, and reddit has absolutely no plans of anything anything about them. Probably one of the big reasons why discussions on lemmy/kbin feel different.

  • I'm on lemmy and i don't see porn. I'm honestly trying to remember if I've ever seen one on this account. Probably instance-related.

  • So we printed the entire Linux kernel source code including my driver in 5-pt font

Please tell me you used comic sans.

  • You don't agree with the site, so you stop using it. If enough people do that, they lose money.

Maybe someone should tell them that's never gonna happen, then? Because a lot of them seem to think the amount of protestors are more than enough to influence reddit traffic. I'm all for boycotting reddit (i was probably here earlier than most rexxitors - this is my 4th account due to looking for a good home instance), but stopping people from protesting is just wrong. Protesting doesn't mean just boycotting.

let Lemmy/kbin grow naturally. As long as it maintains consistent positive growth, it will be a beautiful thing in some years.

As far as the Fediverse is concerned, I agree completely.

There's no need to spam reddit.

There may be no need, but there certainly is a reason in some people's minds.

  • Permission to use this in the future for similar comments. With credit, of course. You explained it better than i ever could.

  • People who say stuff like what the person you're answering said are just being naive. To them, protest = boycott. Personally, i dislike retreating with tails between my legs (but I'm not going to try to convince people to do anything either way). They also seem to believe there are so many protestors that any action we do affects reddit so much. It's hilarious. They left reddit but retained reddit's black and white mentality.

  • Honestly, there's absolutely nothing wrong with what you said and I respect that. But I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree (at least for "major" events like r/place). :)

I never go to reddit anymore and only went to r/place. My reasoning is this: they will get their views whatever we do. Bots, streamers, and the sheer popularity of r/place in reddit guarantees that. A few thousand lemmings definitely won't make a mark, anyway, so why not use that for our cause?

There are still a few people on the fence (on leaving reddit) and more people (certainly more than i exected) are still ignorant of the whole API debacle. It's honestly rare now, but we still get someone who is trying to migrate in our discord.

  • Is it possible thats it's because Discord spawned a lot of servers related to the protest? I'm currently in 4 different discords which are related to the protests one way or another (iirc i joined eaither end of May or early June) - i have never used discord this much. Or is there a different reason for the uptick?

  • I'm rooted and on LOS and can use any app I need (including banking apps, paypal, and netflix - i don't use samsung/google pay). The only app i can't get to work is one stupid food delivery app. It's weird af.

  • Some people say the canvas is bigger this year. Idk if that's true (I honestly can't remember what happened in 2022), but if it is that's probably their plan - make the canvas big enough so the details don't show up (or aren't obvious) when showing the entire thing.

If that's not true, well, please don't shoot me.

  • Could be, tbh. Or they thought it'd just alienate users more and add more controversy.

  • Yeah. It's not that hard. And it's not like there weren't thousands (I'm not even exaggerating - it's probably tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands) 1-karma 1-day-old accounts there for bots. So no, i did not cause reddit's traffic to skyrocket, if that's what you're trying to get to.

  • Yeah. But that's expected (it's like encouraging violence on a real person). And it's only 1 artwork among a sea of "fuck spez" lol. The snoo hung upside-down (Mussolini -style) wasn't.

  • That guy edited comments criticizing him. He may be a sociopath but he's different in that he's onion-skinned too.

  • This. It's honestly hilarious people keep parroting that "that's still engagement" BS like we're a force to be reckoned with compared to reddit.

It's like getting $10 from Musk and thinking its6gonna hurt him in a significant way. Lmao.
