  • cog·ni·tive dis·so·nance /ˈkäɡnədiv ˈdisənəns/ noun PSYCHOLOGY the state of having inconsistent thoughts, beliefs, or attitudes, especially as relating to behavioral decisions and attitude change

Nothing to do with a feeling of discomfort or reconciling the beliefs. Not sure where you got that idea from.

  • If you accept that your goals cannot be accomplished, why maintain them as goals? If you know it is futile, why bother? It is literally a waste of time at that point.

That said, I personally dont think it is futile. I think it mostly is an attainable goal, minus the withering of the state; I don't think we could reach a point where the state is completely unnecessary, so I advocate Socialism. I just also think it is ridiculous that someone would try and claim something is futile while simultaneously advocating that everyone adhere to that thing. Their philosophy states clearly attainable, objective goals. If they think it is unrealistic for anyone to ever achieve those goals, then they don't believe in their own philosophy. That is textbook cognitive dissonance.

  • Well, when you realize that most of the radical communists on here truly believe that there must be an eternal struggle working towards communism but never actually achieving the goal, it makes sense why they are the way they are.

Literally had one of them tell me that is beyond unrealistic to expect any state to be able to even implement Socialism to any real degree. Of course, in Marxism a Socialist state must exist before withering away as Communism is fully realized, so they will literally admit that their philosophy is impossible to achieve.

They fetishize the struggle; they don't actually want progress, they want to complain.

  • What makes you say that dispensaries can't pay their employees in cash? That's a total legal and fine thing to do... why wouldn't it be? A business cant pay their employees in money? I know plenty of people who are paid in cash, including a few dispensary workers...

  • Idk, the guy who mentioned it worded it similar to "he has more upvotes than any of your comments have", which is technically true. You said it wasn't true, suggesting he was looking at downvotes, but the fact is that BOTH his upvotes and downvotes are higher.

  • Hank's first comment has 16 upvotes, your leading comment has 9 upvotes. Hank's comment does have more downvotes, putting the total vote tally in the negative, but he technically has more upvotes.

  • Eh, this particular screen is kind if misleading. You say you dont see a "skip" or "do not remind again" button, well that's because those buttons are on the next screen(s) for each individual feature. I've gotten this screen a couple times, just click through and you can skip/opt out of all the features. It's kind of silly, but I think the point is that they want you to look at each new feature individually.

  • Also, tomatoes ARE poisonous as they are a nightshade and contain solanine. Same with potatoes. The modern concentration of solanine is negligible, though, so unless you have a sensitivity or allergy to nightshades you should be fine consuming large quantities.

  • It's also entirely possible that he was literally in the process of backing it up. He could have loaded the data onto it, then gone to plug it to his computer to back it up when it suddenly failed. The article doesn't go into enough detail to draw a conclusion on what he did or didn't do, but the point is clearly that a drive this new and with few write cycles should not be completely failing.

  • I feel personally attacked... I have done this with too many games on my deck, with Cyberpunk I spent 3 hours testing all kinds of different settings configurations (and then running the benchmark between every change...), trying to decide if I wanted to stick with native res and lower all the settings or upres with fsr and bump the effects up... then I got in game and realized I didnt have mods and didnt want to deal with them at that point and uninstalled the game.

  • Honest question, is that a defense that has ever actually worked for crimes this serious? I can understand something like "Your honor, I totally thought I could park there because a police officer said it was fine, but then the parking enforcement wrote me a ticket!" But not "Your honor, a very Bigly smart man said I could totally disenfranchise all of America and it is very cool and very legal!"

  • what?

  • They do share a significant commonality, though; they are both interpreted languages, rather than compiled. Sure, you can compile them, but they are meant to be run interpreted so you can quickly and easily tweak and change things and not have to wait for compilation to see the results. In that regard they are very comparable.
