  • Climate change is really fucking that idea up here in Scotland.

Our ecosystem relies on now non-existant snowy winters to reset the pest and fungus population every year, instead we get mild winters and summer that have no actual rain to water plants yet are so humid that everything is permamently damp, pests and fungi ramp up year on year and plants that used to grow fine here (Talking potatoes and even some native trees) are struggling. I'd say a full half of the non-confierous trees near my house have started dying in the last 2 years.

  • Could always do the UK model (Currently being used on the NHS) The workers keep their jobs and the state/public still pay for everything but the workers are now magically actually employed by a private company that extracts profit by charging the government for stuff it was already doing without providing anything whatsoever.

  • Nah that'd be other animals, if you just count large mammals then yeh humans probably beat out everything else combined but predators of rodents, small sea creatures and insects almost certainly outdo us by orders of magnitude.

  • When I was a kid I got spore (on CD)

Luckily a family friend was good with computers and managed to force it to work anyway but it was my first and last experience with EAs bullshit.

  • My reasoning is we should do both, nuclear and renewables both have useful properties in the short and long term and the idea we can't afford both seems ridiculous when we can apparently spend huge amounts of money on things like space tourism and giving amazon more money back in rebates than they paid in taxes to begin with.

  • Thing is this has been said for longer than I've been alive, and will probably still be said after I'm dead, in the intervening 70-80 years we could have and could be actually building the damn things.

  • Pizza is not a neccesity but at the end of the day we can't expect everyone under 30 who doesn't have well off parents to live on beans and rice. People aren't robots and while no individual luxury is a neccesity, luxuries as a whole are a neccesity to some degree.
