  • Professional Mornington Crescent player

Explanation for people not familiar with the Radio 4 game show:

The game consists of each panellist in turn announcing a landmark or street, most often a London tube station. The ostensible aim is to be the first to announce "Mornington Crescent". Interspersed with the turns is humorous discussion amongst the panellists and host regarding the rules and legality of each move, as well as the strategy the panellists are using. The actual aim of the game is to entertain the other participants and listeners with amusing discussion of the fictional rules and strategies.

Yes, you can play the obvious trump card on turn 1 and win but where's the fun in that?

  • We also say "it's sausage to me", as Czech-German calques are very common, but the more frequent expression is "it's blow to me".(as in a gust of air).

I haven't heard "Mám v píči" but probably because it's the most informal option.

  • Hilfe – help
Leistung – action (closest translation for this context)
-s- to make it sound less awkward
Lösch – root of the verb "extinguish"
    Gruppe – group
-n- to make it sound less awkward (Gruppen being the plural, is incidental)
fahr – root of the verb "drive" or "go" in the context of vehicles Zeug – basically "thing"; hence Fahrzeug = vehicle

  • In case you don't recognize them, the one on the pedestal is Trump and:

The group in the cartoon included Mark Zuckerberg/Facebook & Meta founder and CEO, Sam Altman/AI CEO, Patrick Soon-Shiong/LA Times publisher, the Walt Disney Company/ABC News, and Jeff Bezos/Washington Post owner

  • It would not be a religion in a traditional sense, just a way to wrap existing ideas to exploit the legal protection of religion. The "rituals" are whatever members would be inclined to do anyway and fits the spirit.

Anyway, you're probably right that it would be a bad idea in the long term. Every major religion has been abused by people from within or outside and I can't think of effective safeguards for this one.

  • No, this required physical repair or replacement and only affected some 4000 vehicles. What I was saying with the above comment was that less than 30k vehicles needed a trip to a dealership, the most common defects (that plagued every Cybertruck and more models) were fixed in software.

  • All problems affecting 100k+ vehicles got fixed over the air. Looks like no recall-worthy mechanical issues are affecting every Cybertruck. NHTSA is a joke, the sharp corners alone are why it should never have left the factory.

  • Look up indentation (Schiøtz) tonometry. In Eastern Europe, applantation tonometry was developed and used around that time, where the patient was sedated with cocaine and a known-weight cylinder covered in hydroglycerinated Bismark brown solution (basically eye-safe ink) was placed on top of the cornea. Part of the cornea that pressed flat against the tool displaced the ink, which was then stamped on paper to measure the white circle.

Non-contact tonometry was first developed in 1972 by Dr B. Grolman and didn't change much since except now it's digital of course.
