  • "Project 2025" is Trump's plan for what to do during his "totally just one-day" dictatorship. I think passing a federal bill like Florida's Don't Say Gay is part of it, making it illegal to mention anything queer in front of kids.

  • Looks like an anti-Spotify ad to me. Why should Spotify employees read the names of people's playlists?

Edit: oh, they're probably public ones. Still, technically profiting off people's content, which they likely agreed to in ToS.

  • Too bad it's a shitty scan and only available in 725x1047, from a website that claims

Texas Instruments engineer Gordon Teal invented the first silicon transistor based on germanium.

Which element is it, then?! You had one job!

I had to waifu2x to make it decent. You can take the isolated streaks at the top, stretch them with Krita and apply the Divide blend mode to "subtract" them from the image. I don't think you can eliminate them completely without some special tools.

Alternatively, here is a streak-free but not much better scan from the Electronics Magazine from June 1954.

  • ...And dipped the amplifier in boiling oil to show their temperature resilience. Yes, I've seen the video.

  • When you're viewing the page, the word "sexuality" is on your computer. If there is a child in your household and Project 2025 goes through, you'll be committing a federal crime.

  • Pretty sure Apple would replace the buttons with pressure sensors – not for user comfort but so that they are no longer replaceable with OEM parts and can be serialized. They did literally this with Macbook sleep sensors.

  • Is this a joke about Inari?

  • Just took a bit of scrolling through UnicodePad. I knew it would likely not be in the Basic Multilingual Plane (U+0000~`U+FFFF) because [QaZ didn't have it](http://qaz.wtf/u/convert.cgi?text=Z) so I just scrolled from the end (skimming past obviously irrelevant blocks like emoji, music or too curly) and found U+11ABD 𑪽: CANADIAN SYLLABICS SPI` in the Unified Canadian Aboriginal Syllabics-Extended A block. Another option is the Insert Symbol function in Google Docs, which recognizes Unicode characters by a shape you draw, but it's been around for 10+ years and seems to not have been updated to include 𑪽.

Oddly enough, the normal Z-shape is present in various scripts (𐌶𐔇𐨚𑢩𑪼𑫑ꮓⲌᮔᏃ႗ჍΖ) and so is the И-shape, but their mirror images are way less common. Perhaps it is more natural for right-handed people to draw / diagonals than .

  • "Amazon specifically told me to ignore IP laws. That's wild, right?

On an unrelated note, did you know that there's now a torrent with infohash 5e007531c6e7c8d23a957f828c0632b4c57b5078 that compiles all of Kindle books and Prime videos? Crazy stuff!"

  • Wake up, babe, new Cyrillic letter 𑪽 just dropped! Do we put it between И and Я?

  • Wanted to customize GRUB and tried the GUI program. I wanted it to boot without delays unless a key is being held, and also add a "Shutdown" option (GRUB script halt), in case I open the laptop and didn't want it turned on. The edits looked alright in GRUB Customizer but I should not have made them both at once, because it made "Shutdown" the default option somehow, so the OS would never boot and holding none of the special keys worked. I failed to update or reinstall GRUB using a live USB and ended up having to reinstall the entire distro.

  • Some people have diacritics and spaces in their usernames, which wreaks havoc for badly written programs accessing AppData or folders in the user's "home" directory, such as Documents. And there are lots of such programs.

When setting up Windows, use a short and memorable, DOS-compatible username, and then change it later (the home folder will still have the old name). You can then move indiidual Libraries (Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures and Videos) to the root of D:\ too.
