  • This may be a basic film-bro™ answer, but Oldboy is a good baseline for "kinda fucked up" but also "really really good". It's even better on the second viewing. I even recommend watching Spike Lee's misguided remake, because it makes you seriously appreciate the artistry behind what Park Chan-Wook was doing.

  • Unsubscribing to dank memes would be a good start.

  • I'm wondering how far they can take the references to DC properties.

  • Affleck is really running his paces in the multiverse lately, huh?

It seems clear that this DP will be a send-up of the recent multiverse insanity, using it to go places that for some goddamned reason no other property wants to - even though none of them have established a good reason why consequences matter if there are an infinite number of everything and everyone.

  • Mūns, if anyone asks for clarification.

  • I guess I can't argue with that logic.

  • If you think about time travel seriously, you start to see how truly complicated it would make things. If the multiverse exists and time travel also exists, then inevitably there would be meddlers from the future messing things up. And following that would be those who believe such meddling is dangerous, because it creates more timelines branching off that would accelerate the meddling, until there are more polluted timelines than "natural" ones, creating a future filled with bizarrely chaotic outcomes all branching from the recursive meddling. And so there would have to be some kind of ongoing arms race of preservationists versus people who want to stack the future with timelines friendly to their own cause.

  • Is that true? I could swear I have a memory of Geordi describing it as a bubble at some point on TNG. Then again I also spent a lot of time looking through Rick Sternbach and Dennis Okuda's TNG Technical Manual back in the day, so maybe I just absorbed it and incorporated it from there.

  • The instances that are federated with one another I believe are publicly listed, somewhere. From there it would be fairly straightforward to create a tool that tells you whether your instance is "compatible" with the one you're interacting with.

Anyone good at coding? Sounds like a project. Make one and add it to the list that I'm sure is also out there somewhere. If there are such useful things, they should be added to all the sidebars and made common knowledge.

  • moons

    Short for 'munities.

They orbit the central world of the instance.

  • Acknowledge me positively when entering a room. Neutral engagement or non-acknowledgment is not hurtful, but over time it erodes me. And when a person walks in and immediately says something critical before even saying hi, well, it's a goddamned wound.

All I'm asking is a brief smile, as if to say "hey, I don't hate that you're here."

  • The usual cycle of edgy jokes. They start off as mocking a group of bad actors, then those same bad actors miss the joke and take on the term for themselves without irony.

  • It's easy enough to forget that the very term "slash fiction" came from "Kirk/Spock" stories in early fanzines.

  • That's exactly what uncles are for.

  • I honestly don't think I could learn a new way to tie my shoes at this point in my life if I tried. It'd be like trying to learn to write with my left hand.

Doable, probably, but whats the point? My shoes come untied I just bend down and retie them. Takes a few seconds.

  • How can it be unhandled? It's right there in the song, just before the spout!

  • The Lisa Simpson presentation meme is perfectly cromulent for soapboxing.

But if you didn't know, Stephen Crowder is a right-wing Fox News presenter and commentator (he often hides under the dubious label of "comedian") who has been booted from YouTube several times for homophobic and racist content. The meme format is okay in itself, but I'd love to not see his smarmy mug in it.

The great thing about memes is anyone can make a new one. I eagerly await the replacement for this one, which to my nose has gotten quite stale.

  • I just wanted to chime in here and add this lame-assed meme template to things we should retire in the fediverse.

Stephen Crowder is a bigoted chode, and using him for your meme template only undercuts whatever point you want to make.

Find a new meme for this purpose. Let's do better.

  • Yup, they basically touched down, immediately encountered some nasty violent opposition, and cut their losses and left bleeding. It was bad enough to make Pike question his fitness as a leader.

  • I did let out a big guffaw when I realized their bait and switch. Started it out like it was going to be an Ortegas focused episode, and then Spock comes in and pops hers and everyone else's bubble with his Vulcan science. Loved how she put the hat back on as she was walking away, as if to say "I'm gonna wear this for a while longer because I can, dammit."
