  • If you're not seeking virtualisation as an option, then I'd recommend the second distro for minimal Arch/Artix/Gentoo/Void/Alpine setup and learn to configure Sway or DWL as your WM.

    (Because Wayland is the solution)

  • No. X11 has been around since 1980's and it's basicly a puzzle of chewing gums glued together. It's not been in development for years now.

Wayland is much less code but the end result is still much better. Wayland is the future.

In case you didn't know, they're display compositors. Backends of the graphics.

  • is this a thing?

Honestly, I have no clue. With DWM I had like 3-4 hrs at max and now I am using DWL for 6-8 hrs.

What is also noticeable, is that closing the lid puts the laptop actually into sleep. Because with DWM it continued using the battery as if it was actually used.

I am not advanced user enough to tell what exactly caused this.

  • No screen tearing never. My laptop saw a significant battery life boost (basicly doubled) when I switched DWM into DWL but I don't know exactly why.

And because Wayland is the future and xorg decrepatec, why you'd recommend xorg for anybody since they must swtich at some point and I doubt even the most basic user can make that transition 100% flawlessly.
